The Inspiron e1505 i ordered comes with 1 GB of ram at 533 Hz , but i read somewhere that this machine supports ram at 667 mhz, is this true?
If so why doesnt dell provvide ram at 667mhz for this machine?
If i need to purchase third party ram for the e1505 wich one would be best?

    thx for help.

Yes, the e1505 does support 667 mhz RAM. I'm not sure why they don't provide it with the machine. If you order from their accessories/supplies section on the Dell site, you can buy 512 or 1 GB modules of 667 RAM, or you could probably get it cheaper somewhere else. Do a search of the forums here...there have been a bunch of questions asked about this in the past. You can probably find some recommendations there.

marketing scheme. that notebook use to be the core solo and some versions still is from the 6000 series. they are overstocked with 533's so they are trying to sell those out before offering 667. if they sold 667's people would buy those and not buy 533s.

That depends on several factors. Do you have one stick of 1GB, or two sticks of 512MB? If you have one stick, then you'd want to buy 1GB of 533MHz. If you have two sticks, then you could buy two sticks of 1GB 533MHz or two sticks of 1GB 667 MHz. You get better performance from the 667 (although I doubt you'd ever notice) but the price is higher.

The important thing is to match speeds and sizes. Keep 533MHz with 533MHz and 667MHz with 667MHz. Likewise, keep 512MB with 512MB and 1GB with 1GB. Try not to mix and match memory sizes, and definitely don't mix and match speeds.

As stated before in previous posts, more RAM is better than faster RAM. The performance increase between 533Mhz and 667Mhz is about a 5%-10% increase at most.

So depending on what you want to spend, I would just stick with the 533Mhz. Depending on what you do on your computer, 1GB should be more than enough, if you game alot 2GB would be best, but you will rarely use all of it.

    Hope this helps. :p

2 GB with 677 would be nice if your one of those people who wish to disable the pagefile and run directly off the ram, making windows run abit smoother.

Issue is, some games will have issues if you dont have a real HD Pagefile..
