That doesn't help either. That's OK, my eyes are adjusting.

WSXGA 100%. what kind of question is that?
-
What is the difference that tag 'Ultrasharp' brings in to the LCD screen of E1505 ? I see that this tag is not there in the WXGA screen options. It is present only with WSXGA+ option.
-- -
ultrasharp is what they call their higher resolution screen perhaps... the glossy is truelife so thats my only guess that it would be that
-
Meaning of 'Ultrasharp' according to Dell:
http://www1.us.dell.com/content/lea...=dhs&cs=19&~series=inspn&~id=screenultrasharp
* 20% brighter and a 33% improvement in contrast ratio compared to standard notebook displays, giving you richer, sharper images and more colors for viewing photos, watching DVD's and for desktop publishing.
* 80% faster response time than standard notebook displays improves your viewing of motion video such as DVD movies or video files due to less "ghosting" or "smeared" effects.
Is there any Dell link which gives detailed specification of the components of the laptop ?

All,
I am in the process of sending my e1505 back to dell for the second time. I opened a call with support complaining that there was something wrong with the LCD. It is also wsxga, but not a shimmering issue, there are imperfections in the LCD which are clearly noticed when the image on the screen has a light background. For example, if I set my desktop background to plain white you can spot it immediately..... There are glaring spots just to the left of center which shine brighter than anything else, they are always in the same place.
I sent my laptop to them with a note so the tech would hopefully not have to troubleshoot and he could see my problem (as I pointed out where to look and how to see it), however when I received the unit back the note from the tech was that the video card was bad. NOT TRUE!!!!!
Anyway I am now sending it back again and this time leaving the hard drive in with a default backround to come up being white so when they boot it up they see it right away.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Brian. -
I would hope mine doesnt have this issue. >.<
Sigh.. do alot of people have issues on the 1505? -
I recently bought two E1505's and had the chance to compare the wxga and wsxga side by side, since I ordered both around the same time.
WXGA: Quanta Display. Minimal light leakage at the bottom but otherwise good brightness and quality.
WSXGA: Samsung Display. No real leakage, but some mild "shadowing" at the right edge, only noticable against a white background. Great image clarity and much better at displaying true blacks and whites. Actually a bit less bright than the wxga.
The WSXGA was noticeably (but not incredibly) sharper in image quality. I experimented with different text and icon sizes, dpi settings, browsers, etc. and was able to acheive a happy medium as far as the size issue goes.
The main reason that I ultimately returned the WSXGA was actually the "sparkle" effect against a white background. I found it to be a just a bit eye-straining after long periods of use. Perhaps I would have gotten used to it.
In the end I think it comes down to personal preference. For my own general usage, I decided to stick with the WXGA, although I was definitely tempted by the increased resolution.
Anyways, that was my experience. I really appreciate all the advice I have gotten on this forum...its a great resource! -
Think the issue is.. if they offered a WSXGA matte screen.. alot may have got it..
Not sure what to think now. >.< -
Went to Circuit City today to compare, yes the WXGA font size of other laptops (Sony, Toshiba, HP, etc) looked a lot more readable and natual than the text shown on Dell's WSXGA screen (which really hurts my eyes).
If you can live with tiny icon/text, then WSXGA will be good for you, otherwise get WXGA. -
Am I the only one who feels wxga too big and wsxga too small?
I guess wxga+ is the best for me on a 15.4 inch laptop..... -
wsxga isnt bad.. But wish they would give a matte option.. i was able to compare one day side by side.. i could see reflection and glare from sunlight, he didnt.
But in darker light, mine owns. -
If they had the WUXGA option for the E1505 I woulda got that
-
yah i kind of wish i'd had gotten the wuxga on my i6000
-
High resolution for the win! Tested a few diffrent widescreens earlyer today, and I tought that the 1600x1000 would to extreme for a 15 inch widescreen, but it's perfect! Looks really great, hope that my WSXGA+ screen will be as good!
-
Would some owners of WSXGA and WXGA be willing to take pictures of their screen from a normal viewing distance for the rest of us to compare?
-
I wouldnt mind but I dont see how it will help.
-
I do. I really am curious to find out how small everything will be compared to the normal WXGA screen... So if anyone would mine to take some nice clear photos, I'd be really happy.
-
-
I personally can't think of any other laptop with a WSXGA screen, never seen it in the stores either... Those pictures in the link you gave look good anyway, thanks.
-
Only thing one can say, is if your a outdoor person or someone who works in direct sunlight, the WXGA would be better.
Those who tend to stay in darker areas nothing will beat the image quality on the WSXGA -
Another vote for the WSXGA, great screen.
TrueLife seems to bother some people but i personally like it. -
-
At first I wasn't so thrilled about the small fonts and icons. But I've learned to love my WSXGA! I think it awesome! I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it. The TrueLife totally rocks!
-
I had heard there were some problems with running games at lower than the screens native res, so I chose the WXGA option. I bought my 6400 as a gaming machine primarily, but knew the X1400 really isn't a high powered card, so it might struggle with WSXGA.
That, plus an extra $150 to spend on other upgrades, made it an easy choice for me, and I am perfectly happy. -
i havnt had any issues running games on my wsxga 1680x1050 at other resolutions.. You can always overclock to make up for any video card deficiences
-
I play FEAR and such, so 1680x1050 would kill my poor X1400. I am happy with gaming at 1280x800.
-
I hope you don't do any coding, photoshop or similar work, there you would easily start to hate 1280x800.
-
well what i was saying was that you dont have to play at 1680x1050. i havn't had any problem playing at different resolutions. anway, it's your personal choice.

Since it's a 15.4," I'd take WSXGA+ DEFINTELY. 1650x1050 is super sharp, yet comfortable to look at. If you don't want things too tiny, just adjust the DPI from 90 to 120 so you'll get bigger images with a huge desktop estate.
It also looks awesome on games, and I heard there's less chance you'll get major light leakages/ shimmering screens.
Here's how I'd judge things:
12" - 1280x800
13" - 1280x800
14" - 1440x900
15.4" - 1680x1050
17" - 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 (really doesn't matter, but I favor WUXGA)
19" - 1920x1200
hope that helps. -
WSXGA+ is the way to go! no doubt about that!
-
I know this question is WXGA vs. WSXGA+ but what about the WXGA+ (1440 x 900) option on the Dell 1505. This sounds like a good "balance" between the two and is in 16:10 ratio compared with the WSXGA+. Does that more standard ratio give any benefits?
-
WSXGA+ is by far better.
-
At first I was thinking of returning my notebook, cause the fonts were too small. Its been a month now and WSXGA+ is the only way to go!
-
what's WXGA+ then?1440*900?
E1505 owners!! wxga or wsxga, which is better?
