    1. Sometimes when I have connected my laptop to my battery then disconnect it my screen so black and i cant do anything but restart... how do I fix this? I have the standard DELL video drivers for my x1400.

    2. my screen flickers from now and again... why is this happening?

Dell sent me a MCE 2005 disk but it doesnt seem to be the clean version... at start up i see 34 processes running? what the hell...

also I want to dual boot my laptop with Suse 10.1 and WCE 2005... does the Wireless card in my laptop for with any flavor of linux?

Most dells come with 70+ processes. The XP disc that you received will give you a clean install, but because XP has several things turned on by default, you need to tweak your system. We have a guide about how to do it in the Dummy Guide section.

As for the problems, update your video card drivers if you haven't already. Also, try reflashing your BIOS. I've had problems similar to that and flashing the BIOS solved my problmes.

34 processes is not bad at all. You can get the wireless card to work with linux--whether it works out of the box or not depends on which distro you use.

I don't know about the scree issues. If it's within the 21 day period consider asking for a return/having a technician come out to take a look if you have onsite warranty.

You should be happy with your laptop.

Probably something like GRUB bootloader will be installed by default. This will allow you to choose which OS to boot. I got my wireless to work in Ubuntu 6.10 but it took a little work and a lot of reading.

well I enjoy using Suse because there is a whole bunch of support and very nice setup....

So you think it will work out of the box or not with SUSE?

Oddly enough I had to use a driver on Suse 10.1 to get my usb wireless adapter to work.. but Ubuntu noticed it automaticly.

My roommate had SUSE installed on his toshiba tablet and the wireless didn't work out of the box. He's pretty knowledgeable about linux & computers and didn't get it working--he's using ubuntu right now. I'm sure there is a fix somewhere, google is your best friend when doing linux stuff :D

For windows, either use the default windows drivers of the omega drivers.

Linux: I'm not sure where right of the top of my head, but there are plenty people who have posted how-tos on installing fglrx.
