I don't know if this should be in this forum or not, but here's my problem. See sig for computer specs. I have an adapter that I can plug my electric guitar into, then plug that into my computer's mic jack. I do this so I can record stuff, use a tuner program, and be able to play the sound through my computer if I want to. I plug the guitar into a distortion pedal, which acts like an amp, so that sound comes out when I plug into the computer. Right now, I can plug into the computer and record in a recording program and use a tuner program but, when I play no sound comes out of the computer. It would be really helpful for the sound to come out of the computer's speakers, that was kind of my whole point in buying the adapter. It worked on my old notebook just by plugging into the computer, not having to change any settings. On this one, when I plug into the mic jack it (quickset?) asks if I'm plugging in for mic or for line in. I would think line in would be the right choice, but it only picks up on the signal from my guitar if I choose mic. I have tried messing w/ every sound property setting I can find, but still no sound comes out...I must be missing something. BTW, I have the Soundblaster Audigy software if that helps. Sorry for the lengthy post, and any help is appreciated.

there is not problem. Due to laws and stuff most computers will not do a live playback only a recorded one

What? Is that a new thing, how long ago did that happen? If so, that really sucks.

It's not a new thing, it's been since day 1.

Audigy or not, if you want to hear what you have plugged into your line-in jack, there is only one solution, robbed from the Dell forums. It's a quick little registry tweak:

This has worked for me before and after a format on my 1505. Currently XM plugged in thru the line-in, with the headphone jack feeding a stereo.

That worked, thanks a bunch. It only comes out of the left speaker though, do you know how to correct that?

it only comes out left, probably because the guitar only comes out in mono. that's just a thought though.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the guitar is mono but somehow on my old computer it came out both speakers, both playing the same signal I imagine.

My adapter is a mono to stereo, which is probably why it came out of both speakers before. I'm not sure why it isn't now. I can pull the plug out a little bit and it will come out both speakers but when plugged all the way in, sound only comes out the left.
