My parents have an E1505. The battery crapped out after about a year and we've been running on AC power (with the battery in). Eventually the charger broke at the laptop side plug. We got a new one off ebay (china junk) and it worked for a bit. Now it turns on and shuts right off. If I remove the battery and run straight AC, it doesn't even power on. The connector is really loose. Any way to fix it?

Hate to say it but probably a motherboard replace for sure.
Might only cost $100 or so.

You think the mobo is the reason the power adapter won't work?

If it's toast and you're handy with a soldering iron, try reattaching the power socket to the board.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
If you've got access to another working Dell laptop, you can test the power brick and see if it's actually broken. If it is, try buying a genuine part. If it isn't you've got a computer-side problem. It could be a loose jack, and in that case, you can try resoldering it, or it could be a failure of some of the motherboard power circuitry, and in that case, you'll have to replace the board.
