I've had my E1505 since the end of August and have taken great care of it since then and havn't had many serious problems until today.

Last night I left my computer on standby overnight, and when I woke in the morning, I opened it up and it did nothing. It appeared to have shut it self down. (My power settings are set to never shut off, hibernate, etc.) I pressed the power button and nothing. I noticed the little green light that indicates battery power or the computer being charged/on wasnt lit.

Tonight I fiddled with the power supply, taking the battery out, and so on and I finally got it to turn on after several attempts. The little green power light blinked orange. I'm guessing thats a warning light.

After 30 mins of use of so the computer just shut off and wont turn back on with it plugged in or on the battery.

    Ideas?

I'm not too sure if it will help, but I always do this first when trouble shooting power related stuff.

    1) Take out the battery and disconnect the AC
    2) Hold the power button on the laptop down for about 1 min
    3) Insert only the AC
    4) Turn back on

You might have already tried that, so here's a few things that might help you out.

    1) Can you tell if your fan(s) are running?
    2) Can you go into the BIOS? Some Dell machines will report on the health of their AC adapters from BIOS I think. See if something pops up.
    3) If/when it shuts down, how hot is the machine?

I tried your first suggestion and it wont turn back on. If I do get it back on I'll listen for the fans.

I stay away from standby and hibernate, never had any good experinces with those.

Your E1505 should boot to a diagnostic utility if it's having issues on boot up. I give Dell props on that, helped me when my HD failed after getting it back from Depot service.

Definetely listen for the fan like night_2004 said. You can d/l a utility to monitor your temps and fan speeds:

Good call on the button on the battery....I never knew that. All 5 lights lit up when I pushed it, so I'm assuming that means it is fully charged. The computer still will not power up on battery alone, or when the computer is plugged in.

When it is plugged in the battery icon will not light up most of the time, and if it does, it will blink orange instead of green. When I get it to do this and attempt to turn on the computer the power light blinks for a split second as if it trys to startup then it stops and nothing happens.

So I sent the laptop minus the battery and hd back to Dell. Tonight I got it back with a note attached saying they replaced the video card. However, when I went to start it up (on battery power since they forgot to send back my power supply!) it powered up but there was nothing on the screen.

Another call to Dell and all they can do is apologize and send me out a power supply sometime next week so they can further diagnose my computer from my house.

    Great...
