Hey all, Im thinking about upgrading my E1505 up a little bit. Atm I am using 1 GB RAM and the 80GB 5400 RPM HD.
Was thinking about 1st getting the 100 GB 7200 RPM HD. I am a gamer and besides... running out of space here. =p
Is the 7200 RPM going to make a noticeable difference in games? I checked this out awhile back about bottleneck speeds and how that long term access the 7200 would be better, but if it was short, the 5400 would be fine.
Also anyone know why dell says 3-5 weeks still if you order this HD? =/ Kinda sucky.
Then I have the X1400, Now if I rem right.. you lose some RAM since it shares with the X1400. Meaning I would have less then a Gig ram working.. was thinking about going 2 GB. Anyone seen a good performance increase after they have 2 GB on this model with the X1400?
Thanks. =)

I upgraded to 2x1GB 3 weeks ago. I really enjoy the upgrade, and it seems to make difference.

A faster hard drive is only going to affect loading times. More RAM might help the system a little bit, but you aren't going to get radically better performance just by doing that.

Do you have to order the HD from Dell? I wouldn't think its a proprietary drive, and through New Egg or ZipZoomFly you will definitely get it quicker, and quite likely cheaper too! -
Actually, Think Dell has it for 129$ the 100 GB HD. Thats not bad. I did not find one last night on Ebay for any HDs.
As for the shipping time, I rem a YEAR ago when I was choosing order options, they claimed that if I wouldve done that HD that it wouldve delayed the order too... so kinda meh there. =/
Just trying to see anything that could help boost performance some beyond what I did. Would OC the X1400... but for what? To make it run hotter in summer? No thanks lol.
Anyone know any nifty upgrades out there that arent listed with dell? Outside video cards perhaps? =p Wonder if a 3rd party had made a laptop video card that works in the E1505 that isnt as cut down like that Nvidia one and works better for gaming then the X1400 (Although the X1400 is quite nice for most gaming, just isnt ideal for high modes) -
The 2GB ram will really help when it comes to video rendering

Both of the upgrades will give you a noticeable performance boost, especially the extra RAM. Buy from a reputed outside dealer like newegg, they will give you a much better deal than DELL.

Well the RAM I would NOT buy at Dells prices.. its almost 100$ extra then Ebay or anything else. Btw... just wondering as I have to upgrade 2 laptops... anyone know if on these models I can mix ram sticks just fine? Thinking about using one of the 512 MBs that come with it and adding a 1 GB stick with it. Would be 1.5 Gig ram... but unless I buy all both sets of 2 GB at the same time (Which would be lil costly) just trying to do a lil at a time.
Still want it tho. Hehe.. so might just get 1 upgrade of 2 GB at a time for my laptop. The HD however I may order via Dell as its not a bad price.
As for the External video card. Yea we heard about that last year with this model, using the new pcmcia format slot. Not much was out there a year ago. Still isnt it seems.
Anyone here playing Neverwinter Nights 2 on the X1400? Having some issues trying to tweak the game "just right" I mean each game is different, but this one is really a demanding game it seems... aleady had to kill shadows, turn to 800x600, Model render to Medium, antialias to 0x. Still kinda choppy... I know at 1st the game had issues with Dual cores.. wonder if they fixed that yet. So thought id ask. =)
E1505, Will 2 GB ram and a 100 GB 7200 RPM HD make a difference?
