Hey.. one thing about painted finished laptops is that you will get "palm" blotches and circles. Which look bad. Dell employee told me its aluminum and shouldnt discolor at all. However.. dont trust them always..
So does anyone know for sure if the E1505 will discolor from having your palms rest on it or so?

if its anything like the 6000, which it is, then it will discolor. Mine has taken on a bit of a dark/copperish hue but only in sunlight and flourescent lights. It's invisible under tungsten bulbs.

****.. I worry.. cause anyone knows mostly if your active your palms will get all over the base of it.. and then that would mean soon circles would be on it.. I hope not.. what can one do to prevent that? Something REALISTIC. I love the tactic feel of this keyboard.. I always loved flat feel keys.. I type faster on em.. But I dont want my new laptop to get discolored later on from my palms.. =(

get that material that is used for screen protectors for palm pilots. put those on the palm rests.

my e1505 has not dicolered and I have had it for a long time -
when it gets the discolor is there a way to clean it?
-
I belive that the "discollor" happens when you rubb the paint of, therefore I think that it´s quite hard to wash it of..
Putting protective plastic over may be one way to delay the problem. -
on the white tirms, if they get discolor..anyway to fix that?
-
The trims I doubt.. but the main unit itself.. is that painted silver or not..
I REALLY wish Dell had made this a BLACK laptop.. I mean least you dont worry on those..
But SILVER?! Sigh.
I saw one user on these forums that used hobby paint to make it all black, looked great too.. Just wondering really if I should invest in something or not.. -
That is what I am in the process of doing. Mine were yellow.

clarification; it is not the paint rubbing off that discolors the palmrests. it is the oils in your hand mixing with dirt and dead skin. the discoloration is on top of the palmrests and can be cleaned, but it just comes back. that's why a palm-rest-condom (like the palm pilot screen protector material) is your best bet cuz it keeps the grime from getting on there in the first place.
also, painting your parts won't help because when you paint, you're putting stuff on top of the plastic instead of having it molded into the plastic like how it comes from the factory. it actually works against you. -
Hrm.. surprised no 3rd party has come out with "Laptop guard" lol
I mean.. hell screenprotectors are going like mad.. but I dont think I would put it on my laptop LCD like I do everything else.. would prob ruin the screen view alot lol.
However for the palms.. would be nice, cause yea, its the oils and all, I know that.. so makes me not be able to relax fully with it.. however on a BLACK case.. its easy. So sucks in a way.
Anyone have a link to a good idea we could all use? -
Hmm...drumfu I don't see how painting would work against you. The paint I used was Krylon Fusion paint. It is specifically made to bond to plastic. I am sure you would still get palm stains if you painted that area of your laptop, but I don't think it would be any worse than what is it from the factory. could be wrong though...

Issue is.. painting this would KILL a warrenty.. and I dont know about you.. But I paid EXTRA for the 3 yr warrenty.. and I didnt buy the insurance.. (Which I should I think..)
So really unless your one who paid for the 1 yr only option.. we really cant paint it.. besides.. I dont have the skill a hobbist would for painting this.. I would LOVE a black one personally.. sure.. would look GREAT with my Blue quicksnap.. however.. thats not a option.. then you always could worry about getting things inbetween the keys too.
I rem this one site or so that you could mold your own keyboard protector.
They give you a mold, you form it, then send it back, then they ship you a clear over protector for it.. wonder if that would work on laptops.. would protect the whole bottom of it all..
E1505, Will it discolor? (Palm discoloring etc)
