I'm sending my E1520 back to Dell so that they can replace the LCD and video card'. I chatted with a representative online and he made me run some PSA diagnostics tests. Then he wanted me to boot up in safe-mode. None of this seemed relative to the problem but I did it anyways. So now Dell's going to be sending me a box and I have to call DHL so that they can pick up the notebook. I have to take out the battery, hard drive, and DVD-drive. I'll give any updates when I get them.
They estimate 5-8 business days for them to fix it. I'm not in much of a rush but I'd just like to be in possession of my notebook.
If anyone's had this done already, did it work? The grainy screen doesn't bother me that much but since I can have it 'fixed' then why not?

I read about a few people who had techs come to replace their screens but I can't find those posts now. Were the 'new' screens grainy?
Is no one else doing this? Only returning or dealing with it?
UPDATE:
I got the return box today. I'm going to pack it up and DHL will come to pick it up tomorrow between 1:30PM-4:00PM. Hopefully all goes well. -
Just to give an update.
Dell received my laptop Saturday morning. I got a call this afternoon saying that my laptop was shipped back out again. I received a reference and tracking number for DHL. However, the reference number refers to the box that I sent my 1520 back in and the tracking number doesn't show anything as of yet. I assume this is because of a lack of updating on the part of DHL. So I'm expecting my laptop within 1-2 days. I will post again when I receive it and let everyone know whether or not it's still grainy. -
which screen did you choose and resolution?
-
I returned my 1520 because the WSXGA screen I got was horrible. I ended up going with a Vostro and I got lucky because this probably the greatest screen I have ever been on, it's so clear and smooth.

Which screen/resolution did you guys get?
Did you get the anti glare or glossy. -
Glossy 1440 x 900

Alright I got my E1520 back.
First off, it came back in the same condition that I sent it in. So that's a good thing, saw a horror story about some guy who got a a WXGA when he originally had a WSXGA+.
Screen is AUO2077... I didn't check which one I had before I sent it in.
As for the screen being grainy. It still is, actually it looks exactly the same to me. I can't tell the difference at all, they could've just left it alone and I wouldn't have a clue.
So I think I'm just going to let it go. The graininess really doesn't bother me that much unless I focus on it. -
Let's say you want to send it back before the 21 days and they convince you to try to let them fix it so you send it in they work on and send it back and it's the same or worse, that'll still count as your 21 days yes?

i really dont think its the screen guys, i think its some coating they are putting over the screens.

AUO is horrible. I sent mine in and I told them no AUO. The graininess might be overlooked if the viewing angles weren't downright horrible.
