I just got finished reading abaxter's review of the E1705 for the 3rd time (great write up!). I ordered mine a couple days ago and can't wait for it to arrive of course.

When I deciding between a 15.4 inch and 17 inch I considered that the 17 inch was not as portable, but hoped that I would be able to at least surf the web with it on my lap from time to time.

For those of you with 17's (especially those with the E1705), do find it impossible to ever work with it on your lap? Or do you find that it is always deskbound?

I dont have a problem with it. Working in 'lappie' mode isn't an issue. You wont want to game of course - no place for the optical, but for normal web/dev, etc its fine.

Side note, I just received my MobileEdge Premium backpack. It's a tight squeeze, but it works. Be sure to shop around when looking for a case for your newly purchased powerhouse.

Congrats cashey - you are going to love the thing!

I only use my 9300 (which is the exact same as the E1705) on my lap or bed. I very rarely use it on a desk, so it does work on laps.

Like rob suggested, it might be helpful to get a laptop stand for your lap. I suggest this because where the fans and heat vents are located, it is easy for them to get blocked by your legs/clothes/blanket. Plus the bottom of your laptop will probably get very hot.

And yes, the E1705 laptop gets very hot specially at the bottom. So, i do not suggest putting it on your lap. :)
