    E1705
    Windows XP

The last time I was on I encountered the blue screen of death / nv4 error message.

Now when I boot it up the monitor is completely black. I cannot get to the BIOS menu, safe mode or anything. Same thing happens when I connect to an external monitor.

I am stumped as to how I can diagnose or fix anything if I have no display whatsoever. I searched the forum but I have not been able to find any solutions to similar symptoms.

Any help or clues would be greatly appreciated.

    Update / correction...

I tried again to hook up an external monitor and, low and behold, I am able to get a display.

I get as far as the Windows Screen, but there are some weird blue boxes in the background (as opposed to a black background) and then...the monitor just goes black (the external monitor that is)

Then I tried F8, to get to the DOS window.

First I tried the "last known configuration" option but it yielded the same results.

Next, I tried to start up in Safe Mode. I am in, but now what is the best course of action?
