I keep hearing this "buzzing" type noise in my E1705. You know the three light that are on the computer, near the bottom right of the monitor, the power light, the middle light (I don't know what thats for), and the battery light...well each time the MIDDLE light blinks, I hear a static/buzzing noise. The noise follows the beat of the middle light - so if it blinks once, the noise comes once. If it blink two times, the noies comes two times. If the light blinks very fast, then the noise happens very fast. The light/noise only happen when I am doing a few things at once. I don't know if you guys know what I mean. When I was updating Steam, the light kept blinking every 1-2 seconds, and the noise kept coming. That is when I noticed it. The Steam update took 15-20 minutes, and the noise came throughout the entire thing. It is NOT happening now as I type this though. I want to know if this is normal or not. I think it is normal, but I just want to make sure. The noise is not continous. It happens every 1-2 seconds, just as the light.

Normal, I don't know, but it's the HD noise. That third light is the HD access light. The noise occurs when your HD is being accessed. My e1505 only made that noise when something was wrong, but the latitude I have at work does it all the time. I have the 80 gb 7200 RPM HD though, not sure how the 100 does.

this doesn't do it ALL the time, it only does when it accessing the hard drive, like you said. i just checked my other laptop to, and it does it too. for some reason though, this one just felt louder, but i guess its because it is new and i am trying to pick out every single possible problem. can someone with an e1705 just back this up for me?

It is common to hear noises from the HDD, but the amount of noise depends on the manufacturer. On mine, it does make noise but it is very faint. If it bothers you that bad, try calling dell and getting a replacement.
