I have a E1705 which is a few months old. Recently, I've been having trouble booting up the notebook. When I press the power button (while the notebook's off), the battery light flickers momentarily and then the power light comes on. After that, nothing happens. What seems to work is if I try pressing the power button multiple times until it decides to boot up. What also worked was starting up MediaDirect and then shutting it down before starting up Windows again.

Anyone else with a similar experience? Any advice? Thanks!

Well, lets make a list of what could be causing it, power supply, the actual button itself, your battery, your charger, or maybe its something with windows. We can rule out the bat. and the charger quick if you just to a simple little test for me. Try booting up with it plugged into AC (try a different outlet as well) and the battery taken out of the notebook. Then try booting up without plugged into ac (put the battery back in for this :)). Tell us is its the same for both instances or if there is a difference -CRAP, i just sneezed all over my screen.

It sounds like you are having an issue with the actual power button. It sounds like there could be a short in the contact, or either a worn contact, possibly moved out of alignment and not making full contact when the power button is being pressed.

It doesn't seem to be the contact for the power button since something does actually happen - ie. the battery light flickers a few times and something (the HD?) whirrs for a second.

Haven't had a chance to try booting up with and w/o battery. Will try when I get back home.

    Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!
