My brand new E1705 overheated and locked up 15 minutes after first boot.

Before the Dell script kiddies killed the laptop, will no longer turn on, I played the Dell Hell game of several back and fourth calls over India. Dell tech support is far better than 2 years ago! I have a tech coming to the house next week to replace the mother board. The trick was getting tech support to belive it was not the fans! I downloaded i8kfangui and ran laptop for two hours with fans set low. Dell then burnt out the laptop trying to flash the bios and then trying to re-run the internal hardware checks.

For you 1705 owners, Dell has an internal hardware check that you activate by starting the laptop by holding down the powerbutton and the FN key. You will see the diagnostic boot message on the screen. During the second half of the test you can specify certain test and for how long, handy for memory tests. This may work for the 1505 owners as well.

    Cheers!
