I'm trying to determine if it is necessary to get the 9 cell battery. Does anyone have any "real world," facts on how long the 6 cell battery lasts, also how long the 9 cell battery lasts. And considering I'm going to update to Vista as soon as I get it, I have heard that vista will drain the battery. And considering I'm going to have it plugged in the majority fo the time I don't know if it is really worth the ~$100 to go for the 9 cell then.

If for some reason you DO decide to lug that beast around (mine has barely moved since I bought it) go for the 9-cell. My 6-cell only lasts around 1.5 - 2 hours max. and that's just with light browsing. Playing games would kill it in under an hour.

I got 9-cell and use it for work and school. In light use, it lasts 3:15~3:45. I have Windows Media Player on most of the time.

I got 9-cell too and glad I did. The battery lasts over 3hrs when not plugged in. Even though I must admit that I don't carry it around much. ;)

I got the 6 cell, and I really wish I had bought the 9 cell. It's worth the extra cash.

I get about 2 and a half hours of use on my 9 cell but I am ALWAYS using my notebook hard (never less than a dozen programs running at once, unless I'm gaming) -plus I keep my screen brightness on full all the time. I get about 2 hours while gaming -again screen brightness is maxed. I am so glad I got the 9 cell, I thought I wouldnt cary it around or anything but its so nice to go sit outback on a cool autumns evening and play a few rounds of BF2.

If you need the DC power performance then the 9cell is a must, if you plan on basically leaving it on a desk then you could get the 6cell if you want bu remember it will supply a very short battery life.
