My tv is a 27 inch Sony Trinitron specs found here:
http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Sony_KV_27FS100 I first tried using a JVC S-video cable which had a bump along the top of metal covering for both connection endings. It connected fine with the Sony tv but kept it from plugging into the Dell E1705 S Video connection. :( I actually tore off the metal cover just to see if that bump was the only problem keeping it from connecting to the E1705. It connected fine although it's pins are unprotected now.

My question is if it's possible to use a s-video to component cable to connect to my Sony tv's component input. I realize the Sony tv will at best only suport 800X600 resolution. Thus would getting a more expensive cable that supports component video to the Sony tv be little image quality improvement over the existing S-video connection? I've had problems finding a cable that actually is S-video to component (not composite or RCA) video online though. Here is a link where the component option is what I want

Currently I have no tv tuner card my interest is just to have videos on my E1705 appear on my Sony tv at the highest video quality possible. Thanks in advance for any help on this question. :)

800 x 600? lt looks like its a normal NTSC television, therefore the res is 640 x 480.

Sorry I meant I set my E1705 res at 800 X 600 The Sony tv displayed the video I played off the E1705 fine as well. Maybe the Sony adjusted itself to 640 X 480, I don't know...

I'm not sure what Dell's dongle supports, or even how much it costs since they don't seem to make it very user friendly to find on their Accessories section. Perhaps it's included only with their notebook tv tuner card or it's remote??

Linked below if you search for "S-Video-Component Video Adapter"
is sorta like what I'm interested in:

However it's too short, and I'm not sure it would work with the E1705. I've seen some other cables similar to that one, but again I don't know if they'll work for component video. Perhaps an s-video cable may be all that is workable. I really hope some cable can work from the E1705 to the Sony's component video though. :)
