Hi, it's been a while since I posted. I have a E1705 with the specifications in my signature. Essentially I had to take the notebook apart because I kept on hearing the fan noises when it would get hot. I found out that it wasn't dust but the heat sink for the video card (I believe) is propped up against the plastic casing inside. This was due to a technician who came out here years ago and installed it.

I have a still fairly decent video card in it, even after 5 years. Other than that, it's a PITA to lug around to do work with. I don't really game with it anymore other than the occasional wow game here and there.

    Thoughts:

Should I find replacement parts for the hinges on the screen? It was loose at first now it's literally not closing unless part of the plastic part bends (it's already cracked in the lower corners of the screen, however LCD is still fine).

I could also purchase a battery, then maybe sell this machine for a few hundred?

Should I sell as is and let someone else take care of the hinges and battery?

    Fix things and keep it?

Was considering getting a netbook or something of the like, maybe in the 10-14" realm...

    Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

You should be able to find bezel and cover for around 30$ on ebay. -And batteries.

The computer is decent enough for homework-type of thing, surfing web and checking email, etc.

You might not get to much for it if you sell it, maybe 150$. -big maybe.

It could perhaps be given to someone as a gift, for christmas or birthday or something. Always someone out there that would appreciate a 'new' computer.

I may have hinges for the e1505 lying around. I had the same problem with the cracking plastic around the hinge. Dell tech came out with replacement bezel and hinges, bezel had its own hinge set, tech left the spare with me. I'll look around, could try to mail em since I have no use for them anymore (screen shattered, completecare swapped to studio 1558). No idea if they'll work for you though.
