Congrats! I too am very seriously contemplating pulling the trigger on one of these today as well (which is why I registered on this forum today.... I was looking for reviews
).
Where/how did you get the $250 mail-in rebate? Please give the details.
Also, I configured a setup several different times using each of the different "starting" setups that Dell had on their E1705 page, and found that when spec'ing it out the way I wanted in each of the 3, that the price differed greatly!! I ended up spec'ing one out as:
dual 1.83's
17" with TrueLife
1GB 533 (will remove and go to 2GB 667 in a few months when newegg has it fairly cheap)
256MB 7800
60GB HDD 5400rpm
8x DVD DL burner
Intel wireless
Bluetooth
and it came to $2031 - $650 = $1381Other starting points had the configured price starting at like $2500 or more. Very strange.
Anyhow, please let me know about that rebate, and I hope to hit the mall today at lunchtime where a Dell kiask is, and see if they have an E1705 there so I can scope it out in person.
Thanks,
Brian -
250 Mail in Rebate was a deal last night. As for your pretty low price thats because a couple of things I added added about 400 more bucks, and the new deal instead of 250 rebate is 20% off automatically so good deal to you!
ALSO
I noticed if you chose the 2nd one from the right in Home when they give you the four options of E1705 you get better deals then the two left ones (and the far right is a core solo BOOOOO) I believe its because the other ones have more warrenties -
I think the $250 rebate expired last night. As of this morning when I checked Dell's website they are are offering a free upgrade to 1GB 533MHz RAM, Free Upgrade to DVD Burner, and 20% off!
Also included in the price was 4yr Hardware warranty and 4yr accidental damage insurance. This isn't mentioned as a promotion, but I don't think it is usually a free upgrade like this.
I think it's time for me to pull the trigger and buy this thing. -

Sounds like a great deal...pull the trigger
If it is free...it is worth the money -
First off, this forum has been great for info from all the people that contribute, nothing better than from the end user.
That being said, I've ordered the E1705 as wellThis thing is a real steal if configured right and with the right coupons.
I originally ordered it the day before, it came out to about $1780 with tax. It was the standard basic 1.66 with an addition of the Trulife screen and of course the 7800This was with a $200 off and the $250 rebate. Then dell comes along with the new rebates and dropped the standard price by about 50 bucks or so it seemed. Went ahead and tried a new system, basic system + 2.0Ghz duo + Trulife + 7800 came out to $1514 with tax w $650 off and w/o the $250 rebate..
Well suffice to say, Dell got a quick cancel call from me and I ordered the 2nd config. The rebate was included in the order details, not sure if it'll be honored. That would bring the system down to ~$1264 which is nothing short of insane. It was in the invoice so we'll see. Maybe a one day overlap that you can luck out on. A friend told me he got a steal on a desktop a while ago because Dell overlapped real big value coupons. I'm not too knowledgable with Dell incentive/promotions so you guys would know better
Another note, I noticed the $250 rebate isn't there today, they just have the RAM or DVD burner upgrade. On my order it says Expires on 02/16 @ 12:59:59.. Guess Dell yanked it out sometime this morning, because I ordered my system at about 3 am or so.
I tried another system config after, now that they have the 20% off, they don't stack with the $off (boo!) but I guess that would drop it too much. Also it seems like their free shipping is not really 'free', you still get charged $24, yesterday it was -$49, today it's just -$25 discount. I guess trawling the coupon sites and Dell's website oogling at your new laptop waiting for it to arrive at wee early hours does pay off -
Arrives Tommarah!!!!
I'm Sooo Excited, Not to mention I just got my refund for my 9300 that I returned
Thats a nice 1600 bucks in the bank!!
Any suggested upgrades Specs are above and I believe in my sig now!
Really wanted Audigzy ZS2 but Southern Girl said that was a no go because it is an express card slot
- (Side Note Southern you suggested a NX Audigy, do you have a Link? ) -
Audigy 2 NX
The PCMCIA and the NX is relatively around the same price. I was thinking about getting the nx too but im pretty sure the usb fatalities are goint to come out dropping the nx price (Hopefully)
around $96 shipped here -

Dell is weird...I got mine before it was out of boxing.
I recieved my I9300 and then I looked on Dell's site and they finally gave me the tracking number LOL.
I wouldn't doubt if it shows up tomorrow. -

Yeah that would be nice. I complained to Dell and got my free overnight shipping. Which I would recommend to anyone because it is free once you convince them of the need.
I had the same problem, thank god my wife was home. -

Don't know about that...but I got standard shipping and complained about the date and they upgraded my shipping.
You can call and complain about something and see if they will refund your shipping. -

Good job, enjoy your new notebook. =D!
Lol, when I got mine. Which I bought myself. It got here before the arival date so I wasn't home. My mom opened it and when she realized it was my new laptop. She decided to wrap it anyways a put it under the tree. So I was emailing and calling Dell wondering where it was. -
I stayed home the day mine was scheduled to be dilvered but it didn't arrive until 6pm!

Well UPS delivers almost all of my packages. The always deliver for me around the same time...from about 3:30-4:30pm. I run home for lunch if I am at work and it never fails.
I think that is how it is for most routes.Just remember it next time something is getting delivered.

Lol... I know two UPS. One drives the trucks, the other loads um. I wasked them both if they has seen a particular Dell package. =)
-
Heh. I ordered mine on the 16th and it's still in one of those nebulous phases too. -
It is such a nice system get it tommorow at around 12 Noon Tommorow (The UPS station is like 5 blocks from my house, so I went down and told them to not put it on a truck I would just come get it, they usually deliver around 4 or 5 Pm anyways so it is better for me!)

Lol. I didn't know she did it. So I was wonder where it went. Dell stuck with the story it arrived, and an email told me it has arrived and gleefully reminded me it was ahead of schedule like that's supposed to make me a happier customer. Eventually my mom told me she'd taken it in when it came and wrapped it. That was more of a worry really because it I'd needed to return this I'd of ended up to closed to the limit.
