Hard drives in general make click sounds. It's most likely normal. Unless they start getting louder or you start hearing other unusual noises, I wouldn't worry.
I'm curious... What HDD do you have? -
Thanks for the reply. I got the 100GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for Inspiron 9400/E1705

harddrives of course make some noise... faint clicking/ticking usually. But you can run a scandisk to check for bad secters (sp?) or faulty errors of the disk to put your mind at ease.
My previous laptop before upgrading to the E1705 was a Dell C840. It began making terrible clicking and the HD LED light was contantly on. This was because of a damaged HD. And it would take forever to do anything. Booting up took 15 minutes alone. A scan disk found the problems and said the harddrive was damaged. The day before the E1705 arrived, the old laptop wouldn't even boot up because of read errors. I had to remove it and use an adapter to connect to the USB port on the E1705. Was barely able to read and copy off all of my criticle files from the faulty drive.
I'm sure your fine though, just run a scandisk to know for sure.

I don't see that the noise is an issue. If you don't like the noise you may be able to reduce the noise (and performance) through the bios...
