Hi guys,
I have a couple of quick questions. I currently have an Inspiron E1505, but am not thrilled with it. I was thinking about switching to the Inspiron E1705 because of the larger screen and better graphics card. So here are my questions:
1. How much better is the GeForce 7800 GS compared to the ATI x1400? Will I be able to play games at full settings?
2. What do you think about the screen? Is there any of the notorious "screen sparkle" like on the E1505?
3. How loud is this machine. With a larger graphics card, I would assume the fan is on a lot. Is this true, or is it pretty quiet? I like things quiet for sure.
Thanks,
Jordan

As for the video card, I realized its a 7900, not a 7800. Just so I'm clear.

My understanding and from the benchmarks I have seen the 7900gs is in a nother league. people are scoring 6500 3dmark 2005 out of the box with no overclock.....not too shabby at all.
I looked into this, it sounds like by removing the anti reflective coating, it fixed the sparkle issue. On some more recent screens they had the glossy finish with an anti reflective under it. that did improve the situation from the non glossy antri-reflective only finish it did have way back....I guess those ones where a nightmare.
So in short (yes I know it's too late for that) the 1705 screen is gorgeous with no sparkle. -
So there would be no sparkle at all? That would be great! One more question. How bulky is this laptop? I realize its 17 in. and thus big, but could you still take it to the library occassionally?

you really need to go to a store and check out 17" notebooks in person. you're not going to able to tell from responses on a forum.

I agree go to the store and check it out -
My 7900GS does 6200+ '05 out of box scores, and OC @ 450/1100 6900-7200 '05 scores...
wat were the scores from a X1400? was it like 1500? -
About that. I think I got 1700 for '05. 6200 would be a huge improvement. I'm really thinking I should get this now, as long as there is no screen sparkle.
