667Mhz RAM is not worth the extra money for the marginal increase of speed. Which you will not even notice. I would stick with the 533Mhz 2GB of RAM. You will notice a difference having 2GB.

I have a t2400, so if i buy 2 gig of 533mhz ram it will not reduce my clock speed? I see that when using cpu-z that my fsb is "quad pumped" 166 x 4 = 667mhz.
This is whats so confusing. Help

No, clock speed won't be affected. The FSB will run at 533Mhz...that will not make a difference that you can see.

My E1705 has a 1gb of 533 and i am def gonna upgrade to 2gb. You recommend any specific brand to get and better yet to stay away from. I was honestly looking at to get 667mhz ram because i truely believe you get what you pay for but with your guys recommendations i am starting to reconsider.

All i do is cruise the net, pay bills, photos, and school work. I don't play any games at all.

    Thanks

Well for doing that kind of stuff, you will not need 2GB. 2GB is recommended for photo and video editing...so for that I don't think you will need it, you will not notice a difference. 2GB is great for gaming.

Thanks USAFdude02 for the great info. I just got an E1705 with 1gb of the 533. I will definatley be gamin. My only questions is if i buy this Ram that is offered by the first person posting. Am i going to get a conflict with my current ram memory because there both going to be diferent manufactures. Just curious Thanks.

Well are both slots filled already. I mean when you ordered it, did you get the 1GB 1 DIMM? If not then you will have 2x512MB. So if you want 2GB you will have to get two new sticks.

I would stay away from unknown brands like that. I stick to Transcend (Samsung), Kingston, Crucial, OCZ, Corsair.

The transcend is actually what was in my I9300, but was labeled as Samsung...Transcend is the budget samsung.

Unfortanely i looked at my paperwork and both slots are filled. Im assuming there are only two slots for the laptop. What im going to do is sell both this 2 512 dimms on ebay and then buy 2 1gb dimms, the ones you recomend. Is this a good plan. And also a quick question, im going to format the hard drive and reinstalling XP pro do you recomend deleting Dell MediaDirect Partition.

Well selling the DIMM's will be good...if you post them in the FS forum you might get better deal. :)

The partition thing is more of Southerngirl's thing, but I think you have to re-install it if you reformat. She will see this thread and I am sure she will help out!

so if Transcend is recommended, this below is a good deal (2 * 1GB will be $170 USD):

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820208024

I looked on Crucial.Com and the site recommends these for the I9400:

    http://www.crucial.com/eu/store/MPartspecs.Asp?mtbpoid=7839361BA5CA7304&WSMD=Inspiron+9400&WSPN=CT498902

    which are much more expensive...

but are Crucial much better? Or just mid-way between Transcend and Dell in terms of price?

    thanks for your help

    Philip
    Thanks for the advice

Well Crucial is a more well known brand. Most people here picked up the Transcend when it was dirt cheap. Personally I would go with the Transcend and save the extra money. It is verified to work in the Dells.
