Is it worth the extra $149 for the 17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife over the standard 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display? For reference:
17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife 1920x1200
17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display 1440x900
Thanks.

I myself have the E1705 with the XGA screen and love it. I would say as high as 75% of E1705 owners would say go with the UXGA screen though. All will say you have to decide if it is worth it. Try by comparing the difference yourself in person. If that is not possible just keep researching as this question has been asked many times. By the way the 7900 GS is an upgrade I truly recommend.

I prefer the Trulife, and it's worth it . It's 1080P resolution on an 17" screen!. If you got an LG LCD, it'll be perfect. The color/Contrast and angle view is much more better than XGA one. (if you got an LG one)
One thing you should consider is to lower your Resolution settings on True life to 1440 x 900.. b.c the text is too small to read @ 1920. -
I prefer the Truelife, there is nothing like the clarity of an Ultrasharp. And I have the LG LCD Screen absolutely amazing. Text is a little small but you can always increase the dpi setting to compensate for that. But again like everyone says it is a matter of preference. Do a comparison at a Dell Kiosk or something like that and you'll see what is best for you.

I have the uxga. I have an Lg and there is some light leakage on the bottom, you really can't tell when playing games. I didn't like how small the text was at first but I have gotten used to it and wish all my screens were this resolution.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
true life only refers to the glossy coating, not the resolution, you used to be able to get the 1440x900 with truelife, running a wuxga screen at wxga resolutions isnt a great idea, its will cause the images to be blurry and less defined, as the lcd is only to designed to be optimaly run at its native resolution, if the text is too small you better suited by increasing your font size in the display properties under the appearance tab -
Dell needs a good 1440x900 glossy and matt screen to go with the LG 1920 x1200.
I wanted the XGA+ for max NATIVE frame rates for FPSMy Samsung screen was so bad, washed out light bleed, that Dell swapped it out to the UXGA+
So, as said a million times, it's a personal thing depending on what you want to do most of. Try to see the screens at a Sam's or other store or exercise the 21 day return policy. -
Overkill and small fonts. The 1440 Matte screen is more then fine. -
Thanks guys, they've dropped the price now (its $128 instead of $149) so I'm still wondering whether or not to get it. More opinions are always nice. Or if you have something else to offer on the subject. Anything would be great.

The only thing I don't like about the 1080p screen is the refresh rate. I'm not sure who manufactured my panel, but its pretty slow. I usually have the laptop hooked up to my 42" westinghouse lvm 42w2, which has 8ms, though. Its gotta be like 10 or 12 ms on laptop screen though. Whether the resolution is good for you or not, depends on if you have good eyesight. I don't regret my decision to fork over a little extra to get the better screen.
