Hey all,
I'm having massive troubles with my E1705 Video Card like everyone else in this world. I've had it for about 2.5 years now and for the last year or so, the graphics card has been consistently overheating. Every time it overheats, I simply wait until it cools and then restart it. Last night when it overheated, it wouldn't restart. Now, it only boots in safe mode (not sure why... any ideas?) I never bothered purchasing the extended warranty (mistake) and so now I am faced with a decision that I'm having difficulty making... Do I spend 200 dollars to replace this graphics card and pray that it doesn't happen again, which it probably will. OR do I purchase a new laptop that isn't a total POS. If you think I should buy a new laptop, do you have any suggestions for ones that are ultra reliable? I don't need anything fancy (128MB Video Card, 160GB, 13-15" screen) and I no longer need a desktop replacement...
Thanks in advance!

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
If you don't already have the X1400 (weakest, and therefore coolest discrete GPU for the E1705), I think there's a good chance that a downgrade could solve your problems for good. If you already have the X1400, then there's probably something really wrong with your cooling system and it could be a lot harder to troubleshoot.
If you really want to be certain about getting everything fixed, go for that new laptop. Get something with an IGP or an AMD discrete GPU. -
Download I8KFANGUI, it is fan control software. You can create custom fan thresholds, so you can control the temperature which the fan comes on, or you can force the fan to full speed.
Your system is compatible with the ATi X1400, 7900GS, 7900GTX, 7950GTX, Quadro FX1400m, and Quadro fx2500m.
Your card may have been fried from overheating, so you can turn around and buy a new card for it on ebay for around $150 and than install I8KFANGUI, and I guarantee it will not overheat as long as you clean the vents on your laptop every once in a while.
