I just got my E1705 yesterday and reinstalled windows XP and got almost everything working but the audio doesn't seem to want to work. I got the Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD audio and they sent a specific CD just for the driver for this audio card, but when I try to install the driver it tells me that the device is not present and so I tried to download the driver from dell's website and when I try to install that driver I get the same message - any suggestions I want I can try next?

does the device show up in device manager?

try uninstalling the driver, then reinstalling. don't use the CD, use the website in case the driver has been updated.

You could try calling Dell........my guess is you won't get far, sorry to say!

    Options:
    1. Goto Soundblaster.com and try using the drivers from that card
    2. Just for giggles, try installing the sigmatel audio drivers for the e1705 and see if they work? Maybe they shipped it with that audio card instread of the SB. The drivers will give you the same error message if it cannot find the sigmatel and will not allow you to install them if the device is not present.

    Good Luck!

Since it sounds like the "Audigy" is merely a software device overlaid on the Sigmatel, you probably have to have the Sigmatel driver loaded first before the "Audigy" driver will recognize the device...
