I have had me e1705 since august and recently i accidently dropped it and the left fan cover tihngy broke (in the pic).
When i ordered my computer i had to choose accidental damge and virus protection, it was part of a security package.

and i just chatted with dell and they said that i would have to pay for a new part.

Dont they have to fix it?

the rep said that they do not cover plastic parts.

    That should be under warranty.
it's not very serious from what the pic shows, but it will increase the chances of something getting caught in there so I'd talk with dell some more and see if they change their mind.....if you don't want to pay for the repair.

Do not cover plastic parts? Wow, that means even the palm rest cover, and hinge cover are not under warranty. Sorry, I didn't apply for accidental, so I didn't know this detail.

How much are they planning on charging you? Will they at least cover the shipping? Honestly, I don't think having a hole there is going to be a problem since the existing "grilles" weren't covering up that vent so much anyway.
Just make sure everything else is working, especially the CPU fan, since it's close to where you broke the left vent.
