While playing a game with a full charge, brightness up, wi-fi / bluetooth off, and GPU set to maximum performance (not OCed), I got about 1.25 hours of battery time. I thought that was pretty dissapointing consdidering the game im playing doesnt put a strain on the system at all.
Now.... with the same game, brightness all the way down, and GPU set to maximum battery life, I only got about 1.5 hours of life. I mean, for 15 min less I would rather have my screen beaming and graphics all the way up.
Is this typical of the E1705? Even when not playing a game, I dont think I could get 2 hours with the 9 cell.... Is there anything else that can be done to save power?
(oh and... I noticed both cores seems to work at the same time quire a bit... even when im not multitasking... is that normal?)

Do you have some type of USB battery robbing game controller plugged into it?
-
No... im just using the KB and touchpad
Well... im playing the game in window mode. So I can web browse and play... so I think that might be part of the problem... and maybe why both cores are running. But... even when its not in window mode... the life is pretty lousy -
What game?
-
Phantasy star online Blue Burst... Its based on a game designed back in 98 for the dreamast.... and it shows too.
-
WEll, correct me if I'm wrong, but that IS an online game, correct? If so, that may be whats eating up all your resources.
-
What does online have anything to do with it? Also Im connecting to the internet through a cat 5 cable.
-
Well the game is an online game- meaning it is constantly streaming information to your computer from the game server. I could see this, coupled with the 3d card in use, taking a heft price on your battery life.
Try playing a different game, and see your results.
And generally, running a game in a window uses quite a bit more resources then full screen. This is because it not only has to render the game, but also run the windows GUI at the same time.
Just some suggestions. -
those times don't sound off at all for a 17" while gaming.
gaming on battery is a bit backwards anyway. -
If your plugged into a Cat5 cable already then why not just use the power cord as well and run your system at it's full potential. I just can't imagine a point in that. I could see if you were connecting WiFi and setting on the front porch watching hot babes walk by while playing a game, but whats one more cable plugged into the back going to hurt if your tethered to a line already anyhow?
I'll bet you I know whats going on, it's those evil Internet Haxors out there, their hacking into your computer across the internet and using your battery power across the internet to power their own laptops with. I don't know of any firewalls out there that stop your battery power from passing through them when hacked this way.
An hour and 15 minutes of battery use out of the larger capacity 9 cell battery would sux, bet your glad now you didn't go with a cheaper 4 cell battery option huh? -
Actually I have both the 6 and 9 cell and I dont notice much of a difference between the two.
Also, my internet cable is much longer than my power cable. There are places I like to sit that dont have power outlets (sp) near by. -
This is really troublesome. I figured 2.5 hours for a 9 cell.
-
Are oyu sure it is a 9 cell? Does it say 85WH on it?
-
he's gaming on battery. -
That seems kind of strange about the 6 and 9 lasting the same amount of time. Gaming or not you should still get a little more life out of the 85WHr battery. Have you tried draining the battery like almost all the way down to dead, (but not fully dead as in 0 charge left in it) then let it fully charge back up, not just an hour quick charge, but a good full charge and see if that helps at all.
We can still solve your problem though!
I know a guy who knows a guy that has some connections at Home Depot, if you go down to Home Depot and tell them you know me they'll hook you up with an extension cord. -
For a laptop this size, and gaming? I am surprised you get as much as an hour and a half out of the 9 cell. When your not gaming you'll be lucky to get 2 1/2 hours out of it. That is the price you pay for having a huge LCD screen and screaming dual core CPU's.
Even if you think the game is not stressing the system it is still forcing the CPU to run full speed, the HD to run constantly, and teh GPU still has to run full power mode to draw everything.
