core 2 duo 2 ghz. 7900 gs, 80 gig hd, 1 gig 667 ram, draft n wireless, wxga screen (lg). I am posting this thread to help those that may experience a high pitch noise coming from their new machine. This noise comes from under the keyboard at the upper left. It is audible only when the CPU is at idle. It is very annoying. I went straight to Dell tech support which advised me to run the Fn diagnostics test and if it passed then there was nothing wrong with the computer. After 1 hr it had passed all test. Going out on my own I started to unplug and disconnect 1 item at a time to see if I could track down the culprit. Results - My microsoft wireless 6000 usb mouse is transmitting at 27MHz which causes the noise in my draft n card. Plugged in a cheap old usb wireless mouse (2.4 ghz perhaps?) and problem solved.
The 1705 as a whole? This machine is a simply awesome. Farcry at all high settings runs smooth and pretty, 3d mark 2005 = 6554. Loving it so far.
