Sweet, it's only $272. *Throws party in chair*
-
What's up,
When the E1705 got the Go 7800 I was so tempted to buy, but I'm glad I waited! Thanks for the info! I'm gonna go get my order in with the EPP discount (it expires at 7:00 AM pacific time!)! Thanks!
Jake -
Does anyone know what full bore power is listed for the 7900 as to the Go 7800?
I'm blocked by "Web(non)sense" from doing full searches
Nevermind, I found it: We confirmed that the Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the Go 7900GS is only 20 Watts!
For full specs go here: http://laptoplogic.com/news/detail.php?id=693 -
I am ordering another e1705 today and Im electing to save 120 dollars and going with the 7800, incremental benefit not worth the money for me.
For gaming the 7800 is good enough and my next card will have to be a whole lot better and this will take 2 years or more for me to upgrade.
go with the 7800 and spend the 120 increasing to 7200 HD -
Ugh...I had just received my e1705 two days ago. I saw the 7900 GS still has 256mb, it's wasn't upgraded to 512mb... So....
1 - I wonder if it's really worth that $112 upgrade and it's THAT much better (Anybody have a link to some benchmarks)???
2 - Could the 7900 GS possibly not only be a titch better, but be free of the overheating issue??? -
Great news -

Although I recently got an e1705 with the x1400, which is fine for me, I'd definitely go with the 7900GS. Without WUXGA, you can get the T2400 CPU plus the 7900GS for just over $1250. Add a better hard drive and WUXGA, and it's still around $1400. And the 1 GB RAM is currently "free." Seems like a stellar deal for the gamers out there.
-
how do you come up with the 1400 dollars, do share !

Basically, select everything you want and make sure the price hits at least $2000, then apply the coupon. I just thought the T2400 & 7900GS was an especially nice combination that allowed for the $750 coupon but still kept things pretty cheap.

Its starting to happen so go configure:

Hmmm... this looks like it may be the deciding factor in whether or not I keep my E1705 or go with the Asus S96J. I am on the phone right now with Dell about the power button issue I have been having. I am going to try to return the computer... if they try to negotiate with me to keep the machine, I am going to say "repair the button AND upgrade my GPU to the 7900GS, or just keep the thing".. think it will work?
-
-
I just reordered mine with the coupon (R3D0GW03LCSZ14). I now get the GO 7900 GS with my old GO7800 configuration for $20 buck less!
Dell is having UPS turn around my old BOX with new delivery set for the 26th. -
1. Didn't know what a GPU is...and when she found a 7900, stated it was for a desktop.
2. Told me that unless you configure the notebook online, you cannot buy the GPU seperately....
Dammit. -
on the phone with Dell... told customer care I wanted to return the system, and the guy told me I had to pay for shipping... haha what a scammer
I am now talking to tech support about returning it for repair (power button).. my negotiation phase has not appeared yet!!! What should I do, I want this card. -
Good Luck -
-
The difference is only $117.00!! I want this thing... I am negotiating right now... they can't find the part #.. come on!!!
-
check this site first: http://www.nvidia.com/page/go_7800gtx.html
at the end of the page you will see the comparison between go 7900 gs and go 7800
the go 7900 gs has lower memory bandwidth and have other things higher. you think it's good to pay $177 for this new cool gpu? im concenr about the memory bandwidth. would it affect the performance? -
Thats a no go with Dell CS
I tried to negotiate with them to replace my E1705 for the button issue (which they agreed to do) but they could not put the 7900GS into the machine... to do that I have to place another order.
Thats ok though, because I configured a new machine with the card and same specs (except I chose the std. battery) and it costs less than the other machine!
Now, I just need the $100.00 coupon #.. I tried to get the rep to just give me the $100 off but he would not budge! So, anyone know the current $100.00 off??? -
The 7900 GS performs better than the 7800, but just a hair below the 7800 GTX. The big deal with this card is it only uses 20 watts, where as the 7800 uses 40w. This uses less battery and produces less heat.
-
Anyone have a $100 off coupon?
-
I'm having issues with my notebook - heat problems with the CPU and GPU... maybe I can swing a negotiation?
-
Well, I successfully got them to take back my 7800 Go equipped E1705, no re-stocking fee, and in turn I ordered the new and improved E1705 with the 7900 GS!
What makes the order better in addition to the GPU is that I got on board for a free 1 GB of RAM (I originally had 512 MB), and the CSR gave me free overnight shipping... I ended up paying only about $70 more
Was it worth the hassle? I would say yes. The only thing I could have scored better was the $100 off coupon, which I couldn't find anywhere, but hey, $70 is a small price to pay for better GPU and 1 GB of RAM, who wouldn't?! -
Unless I'm badly mistaken the Go 7900GS outperforms the Go 7800, by a noticeable amount I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). Plus it's built on 90nm process too, which means it should run cooler and consume less power.
Edit: sorry, didn't see someone get to this before me -
Awesome
I'm repeating a bit but even if the performance to the GO 7800 was the same we are ahead with the 20 watt 7900 GPU. We gain an extra Gig of fill rate so I think this should be a very good deal -
I face the same problem!
Ordered on Monday, received today.
But saw the 7900 option today. Called Dell, I can return without restock-fee, but I have to pay for the shipping.
Wondering it worth it. And I try the epp coupon - they cannot stack with the $750 coupon. Apparently, I got the best dealt with $750 + $100 when ordered.
If I return this and get the 7900 card, would make my son a very happy man!!!!
But I might have to pay $200 more(card different, shipping charge and not as much discount.
What do you guys think? -
I'm doing the same. Just shipped back to Dell and paid the shipping fee + insurace
So you have $100 off for EPP? Can you pls share? -
I actually ordered the computer last week first time, when they have the $100 stackable coupon($750 + $100). Then I cancelled the order because I was pissed off by the customer service whom forget to put in the $100 coupon.
After 5 phone calls, I finally had my order refreshed and get credit the $100.
Today(only today, yesterday was way more expensive), when I try to configure the system again, everything the same, it seems to be a little cheaper than last week, without the $100.
Anyone have try that route? -
I have tried everything. I price it out to 2,000 even and with 750 coupon the best I get is 1800 dollars. how are you guys getting to less than 1,500 with coupon code applied to 1,999+?
please do tell -
When you are configuring on Dell's site, you need to keep an eye on the crossed out price above the displayed price.. thats the one you need to have over $2000, not the bold price that is given. After that, use $750 coupon, and BAM! $1350.00 plus however much over $2K you are. Unfortunately, there are no $100 coupons left, they expired yesterday
Here is what I did (off top of my head):
T2500 2.0 Ghz
Free 1 GB RAM
60GB 5200 HDD
True Life Ultrasharp screen
802.5 a/b/g
Bluetooth
7900GS
Audigy sound card
Everything else regular, no upgrade on battery.. thats the only thing I passed up.. oh well. My price after tax was $1535.. I got shipping free, as will you. -
In the end he said he was going to send me a return box so that I could return my system to be worked on (power button thing)...
Later, the last CSR who I ordered the new laptop through, says I have to pay to have the old E1705 shipped back to Dell to get my money back... funny thing, I find out that the address for the return is the same as the address that the tech gave me earlier...
Whats that mean for me? Free return shipping -
LOL,,, Yeah thats sweet. The new card rocks. It doesnt heat up as much, uses less power, and is stronger.
a win win
-
-
wow i wish i had a gs 7900 too since i only just got my 7800 and i can feel the heat coming through the key pad.
but the price keeps going up each time theres something more to upgrade....
if i can get a good screen i think ill keep my e1705 with 7800. its bound to burn up with all the heat in a few years.. then ill use my 4 year onsite warranty and hopefully get all kinds of goodies later since parts for my e1705 will probably not be made at that time. well thats my plan anyway. -
unfortuantely, Dell Europe cannot get them anymore - they were on the Dell Benelux site as a €600 euro upgrade (from integrated Intel graphics) a few days ago, but have now been pulled!
Shame about that! -
maybe they found another heat issue... lol
-
Such a powerful card in a notebook is always going to create heat. The problem is that many notebook users think their laptop is overheating when really its running at a normal temperature. It might keep your hands warm during the winter but its nothing to worry about...
-
That's true, mine gets warm on the right side of the keyboard, right around the ENTER key, but no biggie, it's normal. Unless your video card temperature hits 80+, people really don't worry.
-
Well all this is interesting, I'm wondering about it, cause the 7900 sure would be nice and I have a 7800 right now... I'm not sure $100 is worth it though... If I could do it for free, that would be worth it
So if I return it for the button issue (which I have no idea what it is) will they just give me my $$ back?
I went to configure a system and got $1800... I spent $1400 on mine, so $400 for the GS isn't that great at all. -
You may just have to downgrade some of your other options such as RAM or RPM speed on your hard drive. Dell seems to charge quite a bit for RAM upgrades. I think you can find cheaper elsewhere.
-
Well I set everything to a pretty low option, exact same as my previous setup but with the 7900gs option.
-
dang it! My laptop is 22 days old! STUPID! ARG! Anyone want to buy mine?
-
Goooooooo DELL!!!!!!!!!
They gave it to me! they said it was okay! AWESOME!
I just have to return it! -
The sweet taste of victory, congratulations buddy!
On a side note, do you think that Dell sends in spies to monitor our forums to see what people are up to? -
Sorry this might be off the subject but here is a funny DELL Story:
Back in January I ordered a 9300 and it came with the X300, it was ok but like two days after I ordered my 9300 I saw the E1705 come out with the 7800 Go, and it was like 200 bucks more (Plus it came with Core Duo, A Gig of Ram, 80 Gig 7200 RPM Hard Drive and Ultrasharp LCD Display instead of Matte). So I call up Dell and say I want to return my laptop to get the E1705 they basically give me the run around and tell me I have to pay a restock fee because nothing is wrong, but get this!
Dell Lady: Well How about we give you 100 bucks for you not to return this.
Me: What? Why would you give me money to not return ?
Dell Lady: It saves us time and we don't have to deal with a return so we will give you 100 bucks.
Me:Hmmmm Let me Think about it.
I figure out I still want an E1705 Damnit!
So I call them back a half hour later and get another lad and she says well why do you want to return it? I calmly explain that I am unimpressed with the graphics.
Dell Lady Numero Dos: Ok well heres your return number give it a day and our pickup order will go through to UPS and you dont' have to pay for shipping and you should get a full refund. Thanks for chooosing Dell.
Needless to say I got my E1705, its beautiful!
However I have an idea:
We should all call in to DELL and try to get 100 bucks to not send in our systems and keep a running Tally for how much we get back from DELL!
Any Takers? -
I have 2 256mbs ram sticks. It would've cost like $300+ to get 2gb of ram. Outpost.com (Fry's Electronics) has 2 x 1gb DDR2 667 for $159.99, it's Patriot Memory.
E1705 now has GS7900 video card option
