I'm about to buy either an Inspiron E1505 or a E1705. I have the following question. Can I change the video card in any of those laptops? Please let me know. Thank you

You can upgrade to better video cards that are specifically ordered for your laptop (ie either the E1505 or E1705) but you can not swap the cards out between the two. Also you must have a dedicated card to do that.

This won't void your warranty, but your warranty won't cover any upgraded parts.

I just purchase a E1505, and for future reference, what site would allow me to buy these specialized parts?

well you can always buy parts from Dell spare parts, but you have to call them. There is Ebay and some online vendors, but not just one vendor that sells spare parts for Dell.

Are there any benefits of having the 1705 over the 1505 if you plan to upgrade parts such as the cpu and video card?

E1705 can be upgraded to very powerful GPU then E1505. I've read some people have successfully install 7900GTX (if you can find one) on thire E1705. If you are planing to upgrade GPU, just don't get Intel integrated.

I believe larger cards will fit into the 1705 in the future.

The E1505 can only support a X1400. While the E1705 can support a Geforce 7900GS. The 7900GS is roughly 3-4 times more powerful than the X1400. So if you are a hardcore gamer, your going to want the extra power of the E1705. On both notebooks though in the future you will be able to upgrade to Merom.
