Edit: if you'd like to just sample the audio 'clicks' I am referring to, I made a sound file here:
    http://sites.google.com/site/dellsoundproblem/Home/soundcracking.ogg?attredirects=0

Alright, here's the rundown. Basically, I went from windows vista to windows XP. Since the outset, I have had a problem with this install. I don't know what I could be doing wrong, but there is something wrong with windows that is not a virus or malware of any kind verified by a reformat/reinstall.

Basically, I have the audio cracking problem that is reported by many to be caused by the wireless card. I don't have the same card, however, and disabling the card makes no effect. The cracking seems to occur when the system is under more of a load, it can be by any program.

To make things more interesting, random system processes (lsass, svchost, etc) are taking 100% cpu or near it. Sometimes a random program seems to have a problem with getting stuck at high cpu usage, usually system processes. When ending the process, I often get the NT Authority error saying a critical system process has ended and the computer must reboot with a 60 second timer. I've had this come up so often I've just made a batch file with shutdown -a in it to abort the forced shutdown. After such a thing happens, windows appear to work perfectly normal sometimes, and other times some things don't work properly (like the wireless card not working until reboot). Also sometimes if I click the wireless icon (though wireless is still working), I will get the error WLTRAY "The RPC server is unavailable". Also I nearly always lose the ability to copy+paste until I reboot.

I think my problem is just a missed driver, but I've installed every driver and utility at Dell's website. Is there something special I need to do that I'm overlooking?

My laptop came with Vista on it and I am going back to a streamlined version of Windows XP Pro SP3 with some minor things removed and general tweaks (the only real component of windows I removed was error reporting and help).

    Dell E1705
wireless 1390 card (which exibited problems in vista that have gone away in xp, oddly enough)
    bluetooth 155 module
    intel t7200 proc
    80gb hard drive
    2gb ram

I suspect maybe it's a hardware issue with the wireless card, or a driver issue *shrugs*. Is there a way to verify wether it's hardware/software or if it's the wireless card at all? Thanks a lot, any information would be most appreciated.
