First of all my laser and CDs are clean... so I know that's not the problem.

The skip is not like a regular CD player skip where it cuts out completely for a second... it just makes a ugly scraggly sound. You can probably hear what im talking about if you are playing a MP3 file via disk drive and copy / paste that file to the desktop while listening to it.

Whats also weird is the noise happens in a pattern. It's once every 4-5 seconds. Also regular Audio CDs (not mp3) dont make this noise, but it does makes a somewhat rappid popping sound... similar to the sound the speakers make when you have to force your computer to power down by holding the power button (But its not that loud). Also these sounds happen throughout the entire song... not just every 4 seconds.

If I save the file to the HDD this isnt a problem anymore. Also if I rewind to a part that it has already played, I also dont get the noises... (Edit... I take that back. It does get rid of the sound it makes on mp3 files... but the popping sound happens no matter what with the audio CD)

I have heard of certain CD-drives having this problem, which drive do you have?

What program are you using to play these MP3...some programs us different Decoders when it is coming off removable media, so you might want to try a different program.

You also might want to check dell's site for the updated soundcard drivers! :p

I use WMP 10, but I also used Quicktime and it also did it.

    I have a Sony CD/DVD +-RW

The thing is I dont think it use to do this. I mean obviously I have no way of being sure now, but I pay pretty close attention to these things. I think I would have noticed. And I know I didnt change any of the drive or WMP settings

Try updating the sound card drivers, if not, then call Dell and tell them your CD-drive is malfunctioning. They will send a new most likely. Which actually sounds like that most likely is the problem.

Will they let me just return my whole notebook? lmfao... I mean there are just so many things wrong with it. They may be small things but still very annoying none the less...

There is this new drive problem, my hinge cover is loose, my hinge is loose, the screen is washed out / brighter at the bottom, and the keyboard is loose at the bottom right corner, and it makes squeaky buzzing sounds when it starts up on cold mornings.

Also I am VERY dissapointed with the battery life / heat. With the 7900 going to be out sometime this month, I feel like I really got ripped off.

Well if you tell Dell all the problems you have had with your computer, you might get an exchange. I don't know about the return and re-order of a newer laptop, but make sure you talk to a manager if you are going to go that route. :)

Specify what is wrong with the computer and that is why you want the exchange...don't tell them you dont like it or whatever because you might take your way out of the return/re-order. :p (I didn't say anything on how to do this!)

Ugh... that would suck if I cant return this. Now people are saying the 7900 really is going to be in the E1705.

If it does happen... I will hate myself forever for not waiting.

I have a feeling they will just dismiss everything as being "normal".

Well don't kick yourself. I bought my I9300 in December...then in January the E1705 came out. :(

Tell them it is not normal. You have to convince them. :p
