The title should be ... help making a decision
I've been browsing the dell outlet store looking for an E1705, and checking DELL deals in this site for a good one. I ordered an E1705 this morning from the dell outlet store, the one in my sig. It comes with the 3 year warrenty for no extra charge, the total comes to $1340 with tax and everything, thats with the added expresscard remote control. DELL just decided to add the new 30% copoun AFTER I ordered the one from DELL outlet few hours later after waitting for a good copoun to pop up for almost 2 weeks. I just configured a new system with almost the same exact specs except, core2duo 1.83GHz, 1 year warrenty ( which I don't care about since I'm moving back to my home country in a month or two ) 2GHz 533MHz and an 80GB 5400RPM ( doesn't matter since I have an external HDD) and a dell wireless card ( not a big deal )for $40 more. What do you guys think?
How long did it take your E1705 from the day you ordered it till you got it?
I payed with a credit card and the system is still in production, how long does it take to get the money back to my account if I wanted to cancel the order?

i ordered mine last friday, got it this wed.

When i ordered i asked to be bumped up to the front of the line for the order processing/build. I asked 2-3 times and my sales guy finally did it.

Also, i guess i could have done this while ordering, but i did it the day after online in a chatroom w/ customer service so if it doesnt work on the phone, try it online.
Ask for next day shipping. I didnt have to pay for it, they did it as a courtesy.

You mean the build time/processing/shipping took only 5 days? man that's fast. I thought it usually takes 2-3 weeks. I guess I was wrong.

THats what i was expecting as well.
Just make sure you ask to be bumped to the front of the line and get that shipping upgrade. I think it was called "next business day shipping"

The phone got disconnected for some reason. So, I ordered it online instead. I will go to DELL chat after the order is shown in my "order status" to try to push the processing & shipping method.

I'd add bluetooth and get 667 memory. The way I was going to do it was upgrade myself and just get the minimum from Dell and sell my Dell memory on ebay.

If you can afford however the 2GB of 667 RAM, I would get it now if you can. At 30% off, I am not sure if you could get RAM for cheaper after the fact.

Dell is currently charging $285 for 2GB of 667MHz. Taking 30% off of that puts you in at just under $200. To be honest, that was my original plan also, get the minimal RAM and upgrade on my own later for cheaper. However, with the current 30% off deal, the price ends up being a wash, and it comes preinstalled saving a bit of installation and configuration hassle.

(Actually using the EPP deals, would even end up being a little cheaper yet depending on how much you spent and the warranty you get).

Except... you can sell the 1 gb you take out for like 75 bucks and only pay ~125 for your upgrade or use in as an upgrade in another system.

Exactly. That's what I'm planing on doing. I don't know though, how low is a 1GB in games like FEAR, BF2, Oblivion? I had an E1505 with 1GB memory & an X1400 that was sucking 128mb off system memory. While gaming, I noticed the avaliable system memory was 40-100MB and 500MB+ for page file usage ( I had a 100GB 7200RPM Seagate though :/ ), that's with only 22-25 programes running in the background. I'm thinking about buying a 1GB stick for now, and selling one of the 512MB since I can't get 2GB now, unless the 2X512MB will do fine for a month or so till I can get 2x1GB, and sell 2X512 as a pair.

BTW, I ordered mine from DELL outlet last Friday, and it should arrive this morning, Nov. 3rd.

All 3 of those games can play fine with 1 gb ram... you will have to tone back the settings in BF2 and oblivion just a tad but not enough to even make a noticeable difference.
