Ok, so I have an E1705 that I have for about a year and it works fine but I am considering giving it a little upgrade. How hard is it to swap out the processor and can it be done?

Can it be done - yes.
    Difficult - yes.
    Void warranty - yes.

Performance improvement - maybe 5-10% for ONLY processor intensive applications...you will not notice a speed bump just browsing email/NBR/internet.

Cost - $xyz...probably not worth in IMHO unless you absolutely need more power.

Well my E1705 is out of warranty, was a refurb and it has the Core Solo 1.6, so I think a nice C2D T7200 or T7300 would be a major improvement.

    So how hard is it?

the hell is a core solo?

check the motherboard chipset first, somehow i don't think your motherboard will be compatible with C2D

I believe you can only use the even numbered processors t7200, t7400, etc. on the 945 chipset. The odd numbered ones T7100, etc are for santa rosa. I'm not sure about this and have no link... your post just rang a bell. Certainly something to check on before you order. Swapping the processor should be doable but you should be pretty confident in your comp building skills before you undertake. Good luck!

might want to check with this guy:

It was the processor just before the Core Duo.

Ok, I will check with that guy...thanks!
