I am connecting the E1705 to an external LCD via DVI - HDMI.

I am however unable to use both the laptop LCD and the external LCD (37" Sharp 1080p)

You have to pick one or the other, when the internal LCD works I only get a desktop screen on the Sharp, if I close the lid of the laptop, only then the external LCD becomes active.

I want to use both at the same time, possible?

I can use both displays at the same time on my Studio 17.

    What OS?

Edit: You mentioned "desktop" screen. As in, your wallpaper is showing on the Sharp TV, and your icons and such are on the laptop's LCD? I'm guessing you want the icons to show on both displays?

If this is the case, you need to enable "Clone" mode in your graphics card's control panel.

That's right, Sharp is only showing Walpaper, I want it to duplicate the internal LCD.

How do I access this configuration?

    The OS is Windows XP.

Control Panel > Display Settings or Right click on desktop > Properties

    Select your secondary monitor.
Uncheck "Extend desktop onto this monitor"

In this case, the second LCD is completely blank (off), doesn't even show the Wallpaper.

fn+f8 will cycle through the settings, 1 being only your laptop monitor, 2 being both screens, and 3 being just the external. This works after you do the steps above.

I think you'll need to use the nVidia control panel (E1705 has nVidia gfx, amirite?) to enable "Clone" mode.

It's been a long damn time since I used XP OR nVidia drivers.

But however you do it, you need to enable "Clone" mode to get both monitors to display the same picture.

Edit: I found these instructions on the googles.

There is no such setting in Windows XP SP3.

How do I access this "clone mode"?

Not sure how to access this either:

Honestly, I'm not sure. As mentioned, I don't use XP and really haven't used it in a couple years.

You could always try a tool like "ultramon".
