    hi,

i just received my new system e1705 today. everything is great, no dead pixel, lid is firm ...
however i have experience with the wireless adapter intel proset 3945abg. the problem is it can detect my wireless network and i connected successfully, but the connection only lasted for about 1min or less. then it kept reconnecting and disconnecting again and again..

i have tried with my old hp laptop with intel proset 2200 and there was no problem connecting to the wireless network.

for your info, i sit just right next to the wireless router, so no weak signal can occur.

i tried to reinstall the driver for it with the driver cd from dell, but it had the same problem. then i went to intel website to download the full set software for the adapter, it was about 78mb and installed it (after unintalling the driver from dell). the driver from intel is just a newer version compared to the one from dell.

i tried different ways but there was no hope for me making the wireless adapter work properly. i enter a chat session with dell support. they made me wait for 15 min and ended the session in 2 mins and redirected me to the wireless dept. then i call them and they are all unavailable...

has anyone experienced the same problem with me? is there anything that i missed or didnt know? any glue for me?

    thanks for reading,

    -caten

For one, if your sitting right next to the router then just plug the CAT5 cable in and enjoy way faster speeds then your ever going to get out of even the best working WiFi connection. Trying to use a WiFi connection when your setting in cable length of the router anyhow is just stupid.

I also read it alot from people who try to compaire how one system works on their WiFi and another doesn't work as well. You can't compair things that way. Different systems have differnt circutry and differnt RF noise aspects to them. You have to tune and find a seperate working environment for both. It's not that ones better than the other either. The one you may think is working better than the other just may be pulling in a weaker signal and taking in less interference. A "better" system that's capable of more range is also going to take in more noise, but get a connection through thicker walls and more range.

Without being there to look at the environment there's little anyone could tell you outside of try a different channel, try moving 2" or more left, right, up, down. Beyond that I do know people have experienced simular problems in just trying to use the built in Windows connection rather than the software provided with the actual WiFi card.

    thanks for your respond...
the position i used with the new dell system is exactly with the position i used with my old laptop. moreover, i tried different positions and result was the same

this is a new machine so i suppose it should work right in the same condition with the old one, yeah?

the strange thing is, when it first establishes the connection, the signal quality is excellent, then after a while it becomes poor and eventually no signal... and then reconnect with great signal and then poor, and then no... thats the cycle.

i tried with the windows built in connection but it has the same problem, so i guess its because of the hardware...

    Things to try:

    Change channels
    Upgrade your router's firmware
Visit your router manufacturer's website and see if anyone reported the same problem
Verify your wireless settings on your old laptop are the same as your new laptop (ie: authentication settings, etc).

just let you guys know... i solved the problem simply by changing the router's wireless channel to another number (usually it takes channel 6) and it work fine.

the reason could be because in my area there are so many other wireless network so it got interfered and confused.

    thanks for all the help.
