Turn on your num lk and then use fn + whatever you want. Or at least that's how it's working on my D830.

That's also how it works on my Vostro 1500... which has the same build as the Inspiron 15XX series. I'm pretty sure that's how it works on almost all laptop with Fn and embedded Numpad keys.

You can also tweak the BIOS settings so that whenever you turn on Num Lk, pressing the Numpad keys will automatically input numbers without having to hold down the Fn key (I turned that on). Much easier when gaming in WC3 (since I need to use the Item slot hotkeys for Hero items :p).

But just make sure you don't need the alphabetical button that corresponds to the numpad numbers if you do turn that feature on.

Oh, by the way, if you turn that feature on, pressing Fn while Num Lk is on will simply input the letters instead of the numbers (kind of like an inverted function).

Hit F2 to load the BIOS and the option should be in there :D

I can't rem. the section since I'm not in the BIOS now lol, but you should find it easily.

Are you talking about the numeric keypad that overlays the center of the keyboard?

I just looked that up yesterday. Hold down the FN, and press the Num Lk key. Same thing to unlock it. I was going to try it yesterday, but after spending 10 minutes looking for the Num Lk key I gave up. My wife found it right away, after I turned it off. It's at the upper right, to the right of the F12 key. I still haven't tried it (I'm using my desktop at the moment).

Ooops... Sorry, somehow I didn't see all the posts with the answer.

If you do a lot of 10 key touch stuff you can buy a wireless numeric keypad (I have one made by targus). Then you don't have to deal with the weird slant of the keyboard.
