I have the exact same problem but with Studio 15 and Vista Ultimate 32bit, I can't eject by the Eject Button or by the Fn+F10 shortcut.

the only way works is by manually ejecting the disc using Windows Explorer ( right click on the drive icon in my computer and choose eject ), or by using any other software ( like Nero )...

There is a known driver issue with Studio 17's (15's as well?) and Vista x64, as well as Windows Server 2008 x64.
This issue involves using the DVD eject button on the panel. When pressed, it will not eject the DVD and will freeze the machine for several minutes.

This has been remarked on in several threads already in this forum. At the moment there is no fix for this issue.... and Dell doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry to fix it - as they do no officially support 64bit operating systems for this model.

The way I get around this is to use Windows Explorer to eject the DVD. Simply right click on the DVD drive and select "eject" from the context menu.
