I have a studio 1747 (Core i7) with Windows 7 64-bit installed on it and when Im booting it up, both eject buttons work. (The touch control and the actual hardware button on the keyboard.)
But once it's in the OS, the buttons stop working and I have to actually right click the drive and select eject in order to get the dvd/cd out of the drive.
I've heard there are a lot of people with different brands of laptops that are having issues with eject buttons in Win7.
Has anybody else experienced this and corrected it? Before you ask, I have the current firmware installed in the drive and Dell offers no driver downloads for the quickset touch controls.
When I asked a Dell Rep, they told me to mail my laptop in. But it's a software issue I'm assuming.

It's a software issue for sure and I will advise you not to send your system. I have never had luck fixing bugs in windows 7. But I can only think of the following solutions, maybe someone can better advise you.
Try reinstalling quickset, it will be available on the drivers cd that came with your laptop, also you can try installing quickset from studio 1737 drivers available online(not sure if they work though).
Try uninstalling the dvd rom (from device manager) and reinstalling it.
OR
Reinstall the OS.
