hi, i got a studio15 laptop on 25th of feb. after 4-5 days it start giving me the eject button problem on start up. the button remains on for 2-4 minutes and the touch panel:confused does not work. i contacted dell for the problem, they recommend me to update BIOS, but does not work. if anybody have the solution then please tell me...!

Take out the drive and boot without it. Check if you have any issue, otherwise you can run diagnostics on the motherboard. It could be a problem with the dvd drive or the motherboard.
-
i have done the extended diagnostics test, but it does not give any error reports in the hardware. dell told me to do the pc restore, but the problem remains as it is. after making 4-5 eject operations it starts working normally.

Try fix it yourself or try exchange it for a new one, because the problem started 4-5 days after you got it.
You can remove the optical drive and boot the pc without it to check if the problem is still there. If the problem is not there without it, then put it back in and check again, instructions are here:

Fairly widespread issue on the Studio 15.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=286942
Heres My Solutiion:
1. Take out the battery
2. Open the the laptop lid
3. Press and hold the power button for 30+ seconds. This (according to Dell) discharges the capacitors in the system, thus preventing residual charge/voltage from making the eject button stick.
->To me, this suggests that the buttons/the cable are not properly shielded or grounded, as a stray charge is building up in them.<-
4. Close laptop lid
5. Insert battery
6. Power on
I do this everytime I do a cold boot, or are coming out of hibernation, my eject button does not stick. Note that you do not want to do this if your laptop is only in sleep mode, as the battery is required to maintain your session that is saved in RAM. -
Thanks for the help. i will try it
-
The "holding down power button" is a temporary fix. The issue comes back if you do not do it every time you cold boot/resume from hibernation. For those of us who use the sleep function a lot, it doesn't really help the issue.

I got my Studio 15 last Thursday. The first thing I did is format the HD and start from scratch as I do will all new PC's so that they have a clean start to life. Regardless of the fresh OS install, I'm also experiencing the eject button issue and no response from any of the capacitive buttons. Using the FN+F10 key will perform an eject operation, but the capacitive buttons are not responsive until after some predetermined amount of time.
Apparently this issue is somewhat common and even a fresh OS install doesn't solve anything, FWIW. I'd really like to hear if a solution arises. -
It keeps happening despite a fresh install of Windows because it's not a software issue, it's hardware. Presumably, the media panel or the ribbon cable that connects it to the motherboard are not properly shielded.
-
I've fixed mine with a piece of double-sided tape between the ribbon cable and the panel, there's a thread about it
-
i have called up dell, they have changed the media control panel(hing cover) and i haven't faced the problem from last 4 days. hope for the best !
-
I'm going for the foam tape and foil method soon. -
I just put a layer of foam tape on the underside of the media panel, under the buttons, and affixed a layer of aluminum foil to that, and then ran the media ribbon cable underneath all that. I didn't reroute the cable at all; there's just a layer of foam and foil between the cable and touch panel buttons now.
So far I've booted and shut down 5 times without discharging the capacitors via the power button, and it seems to be working just fine.
It's a pretty simple fix if you have double-sided foam tape, aluminum foil and scissors, and I highly recommend it. The media panel does not seem to be bulging from the added thickness of the foam, at least not noticeably.
Of course, it's not nearly as good as Dell actually getting it right (or indeed, admitting it's a problem to begin with), but it keeps me happy. -
I find for me, the problem usually shows up after leaving the system off or in sleep mode for a long time (e.g. first start up in the morning.)
Great to hear that the fix is working though. I'm going to try to do the fix with electrical tape this weekend. -
The issue will not go away. If it's frustrating you then I highly recommend you return the laptop for a FULL refund. Here are some key points.
Have your express service code and order # ready.
Call tech support. Tell them the following information:
You have updated the BIOS and the issue still persists.
You have updated the firmware and the issue still persists.
You have reseated the media bar and the issue still persists.
You do not want a replacement laptop because it will still be an issue on the new one you receive.
Tell the rep to note all of this in the ticket.
Most importantly, tell him that he must note that it is related to a hardware issue/faulty hardware. Have the rep read it back to you word for word. I was transferred between the departments no less than 4 times today because my issue was misinterpreted several times and/or the ticket was not properly documented.
If this information is not documented in the ticket the sales resolution department will not budge and will charge you a 15% restocking fee.
At this point you are now qualified for a FULL refund.
You will be transferred either directly to customer care or an operator who will then transfer you to the sales resolution department. Or, the rep will get it right and transfer you directly to sales resolution.
Write down your ticket number, get the name and ID of every rep you speak with.
My suggestion is to wait for the 1555 model coming out very soon. I think you can get it now in parts of Asia and Europe.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
