Hi,
I ordered a laptop from Dell back in the end of November, B120 for $430 shipped + free printer. Was going to give it for New Year to my boyfriend, so it was kinda a big deal. (I don't celebrate Christmas, and exchange presents for New Year instead; long story.) It was supposed to ship today, arriving a week before New Year. Well, today I get an email from [email protected]:
So that makes it sound like it's the printer, right? Well, the order number that it lists below is the one for the laptop! It also has a number to call for more information. So I call, but the person there says that the system does not show any delays, and that he shows an estimated delivery date of Dec 21-23 for both items, which is consistent with the thing shipping today or, at the latest, Monday. I'll die before the end of Monday (when I may or may not get an email saying that it shipped) aglksjdfkl!
So I sent an email back saying all of that, but who knows when they'll respond. Does anyone have similar experiences? Any ideas on what might be going on? Thanks

malia.zee,
There was a post in the Dell section about this a couple of days ago. He also received this notification and got the computer on the original estimated date. I wouldn't be too worried. Just my $.02 -
Thanks, sorry I didn't notice the other post! Lots of people with Dells..

Oh gosh, I got another email from Dell, I guess in response to my inquiry, this one looking more official and saying:
Has anyone had their order delayed by Dell? By as much as 18 days from the original ship date??

What is the product associated with that specific order number listed in the email?
-
Well, it was confusing. It said that the delay was with the "promotional item", ie the free printer, but the order number was for the laptop. And, the email people pretty much refused to clarify, while the phone people had no idea of any problem.
But, all is well, they both shipped last night! Hooray!
One more question, does anyone know how the "pickup from post office" thing works? Do they put a paper in your mailbox telling you to go to the post office? Do you need an ID, or is just an address ok? Cause I accidentally put my name on the shipping addy, but my mom would be the one picking up, preferably.. Thanks

congrats on the shipment
Usually, laptops will be delivered to your house via UPS/FedEx/DHL, so it will come directly to your house and not the post office, but that might be different for NYC.
[edit] i was looking up something and didn't realize that dell now has a program with USPS that allows laptops to be delivered to post offices (in some locations). Is this what you choose?
If yes, then then is here is the info (just got it in an email )
US Postal Service

Yeah, that's what I was referring to - the pick up from the Post Office program - because no one's home during the day. I shipped to my mom's house in MA to avoid $40 in sales tax.
My license has a name different from the package... I called Dell yesterday and they said that they updated the name, but the "bad" name is still showing up on the website. My SS card has the same name as the package, but no photo there. My Russian passport has both a photo and the correct name as an AKA (with the other name as the main thing) but I don't know if they'll go for it. So even if I go to the post office myself they may not release the package to me!!
Maybe I can ask them when they call me to allow a different person to pick up the package? Man, I really need to update my license...

Judging by the email that I got, I think you just have to have some forum of photo ID...it doesn't have to match what is on the package. I would print out the email that has the tracking number on it for reference and take it to the Post Office.

Well, instead of the USPS pickup, Dell randomly sent my order via UPS, where they apparently can change the name AFTER the package has already been mailed, so there'll be no problems picking up. Once I figure out where to pick up from.
So, I complained about their mistake, and soon I'll have a $25 concession coupon in my mailbox. Of course, the only cheap thing on the Dell website that I found that I have any use for, a PCMCIA card reader, is $24, so I can't use the coupon - $25.01 is the minimum. Is there anything else worth buying at Dell.com that's cheap, before this thing goes to eBay?

Email from Dell says order is delayed, Cust. Svc says it's not??
