I've found a possible solution for this issue

I know some of you guys with Dell Studio have been struggling installing Vista ( non-SP1 ) with AHCI enabled, as the installation stops with driver missing...

and enabling AHCI after Vista installation will make BSOD or restart loop

1- restart windows with AHCI disabled as we have to work on windows...
    2- follow these steps
3- restart and enable AHCI from the BIOS
4- save settings and restart again

the first time I did this Windows started normally with AHCI enabled !!, but second time I restart windows enetred a restart loop with BSOD just before restarting !!

I'm now trying to figure out the problem but I just wanted to share my experience with AHCI and windows non-SP1 if someone will like to try for himself and maybe we will find a solution

the steps above I found on MS website

First, install SP1. Then repair using the Vista media. If msahci.sys is enabled, Repair will fix any faults related to it.

    Hi Guys :)
I had the same problem trying to install Vista Ultimate SP1.

This is the solution i read in this forum thet works:

Enter in the Bios, select SATA instead AHCI, Save and Reboot... the installation starts now.
At the first reboot enter another time in the Bios, reselect AHCI, save and reboot and finish the Vista's installation.

    That's all. :)
