    Hi
My dell 1210 has been awesome, for those of you are considering this laptop and the size of the srceen doesnt matter too much i would strongly recommand it.

I aint much of a computer genius, and i only recently figured how to use the blue control keys in winamp, and how to manage the power when using it on battery. Its annoying that the nvidia 'Extend my battery life' option is a bit poor, always causes my laptop to fail when shutting down and waking from sleep...........

Its been said recently on the forum that the CPU and the Graphics can be upgraded, does this applies to 1210??? it would be smooth if i know i can upgrade it to a core2duo and 7900 graphics!

    Ta!
    Hollis

You can upgrade the 1210 to C2D with a simple BIOS update, but you cant upgrade the card. I mean a 7900 first off wouldnt even fit in it since its not designed for the 1210. And even if you did get it in and get it to work, which is impossible, your system would melt...seriously. The 7900 creates so much more heat than the 7400, and the 1210 already gets hot. It just simply is too small and compact to have an adequite cooling system to cool the card. The 1710 that does have the 7900 is alot larger, has 2 fans I believe, and some have a dual heat pipe cooling system, and it still runs hot.

I was dreaming to have extrame power in a mini system, that remains a dream for many years! I see u have 1210 is well nice config! Whats the A/V commuications package??? I customized my system in HK a lot of the options wasnt avaliable, but i got it really cheap! Shouldnt be complaining! Seriously tho, do u have a problem with shut down and wake? it seems to happen all the time! especially when using with battery! And do u know if the graphics is set at 256MB, isnt it sometimes set as 64MB?? Sorry for the questions cos i am new to laptops and i am too scared to play around too much, as i am relying on this to do everything (inc. uni work).

BTW, its nice to know that i can upgrade to a core2duo, that would be smooth!!!

    thanks man!!

The A/V communications is the integrated 1.3MP web cam, a mobil broadband antenna (card optional), and a sweet set of noise reducing ear buds. Ok as for the card it really isnt 256mb, but then it still is. Now there is 64mb of dedicated VRAM on the video card. Then using the "TurboCache" feature, the card borrows 192mb of system RAM and allocates it to VRAM. So there is 256mb of RAM for the video card, but it really only has 64mb on it. I have no problems with shutting down or booting up. If you are then go into the power settings and disable hibernate and/or standby, I never use them because if im not going to use my laptop its off. With sometweaking ive gotten mine to boot up in about 20 seconds so its like its hibernating all the time. Hope this helps you out. Good luck with the 1210.

Everything you need to get a superfast boot up is there. Though I wouldnt turn off system restore like it says, since if you have a major problem, and thats off, your screwed. But I would strongly recommend doing everything else it says.

Thanks, sheff159. Now all I need is my 1210 - hopefully in a week or so.

I am going to take an early bite into the future, I plan to test out Vista RC1, as I got a key from the preview program. Wish me luck people! And lets see if this 1210 would be 'Future' ready!
