This is my first Dell. Is it just me or do others also think it's really silly for manufacturers to put 2 USB slots, ethernet slot and video slot on the right side of the laptop. Most people are right handed, and having any one of those in use hinders using a mouse and pad - basically the cables of USB sticks jut out over the top 1/3 of the mousepad - and if you've got a cable mouse, the cable always get caught in all those other protruding cables and sticks.

Why couldn't they put these slots either on the left (sorry to the left handers) or better still on the back where they won't interfere? I rarely ever have anything plugged into or am using any of the stuff on the left. The back only has the 2 USB slots.

P.S. You can see that overall I love the 1520 - these small things are my only niggling complaints!

I don't know about others, but I actually like having USB ports on the right side. When I plug in a wired mouse, it doesn't seem to get in the way.

at first i thought the usb ports on the right side was stupid, but as the poster above me said, it doesnt interfere at all, i actually like it alot better than on the back or left side

I use a wireless mouse, so only the small antenna sticks out. I can see how that would be an issue for people that use wired mice.

Brain blast, use the back USB ports, instead of the ones on the left side.. Tada, the problem of the sticking out mouse cord/receiver is solved.

If you think that port layout is bad, look at the 1525. EVERYTHING is on the sides.. How about the m15x by Alienware, theres not one port on the back. So no matter if you're left or right handed, you're gonna be screwed with those two machines, if you're the type to nit pick on those things.

I can understand why some people may complain about this but they gotta realize theres more to building an designing a laptop. So it's not as easy as saying "well I'm just gonna put this here and this there".

Putting stuff on the back of the 1520 wouldn't be feasible. You got a massive battery there already. Ontop of 2 thick cables for the S-Video and AC adapter, and the phone cord too, although that isn't really an issue for most but for me, I want that on the back (Rural area, dial up only at home :().

It's hard to please everyone.. Put everything on the right side, right handed people complain. Put everything on the left side, left handed people complain. And if you put everything on the back, lazy people will complain they have to sit up a bit or turn the machine to plug things in!
