When I put a DVD into my computer, I get error message "Decoder Error" in both Windows Media Player and Media Center. I don't really know what could have caused this unless it is the DVD itself. I can't test any other DVDs at the moment but I will when I get home. Any ideas?

have you reformatted your computer or is everything how Dell originally installed it?

I've reformatted and done a lot of stuff with it. I installed Divx and Xvid codecs but didn't remove any codecs. I ran a utility from the Microsoft website I found searching around. My computer doesn't have any Mpeg-2 decoders apparently.

i would try the dell drivers and utilities cd I believe you can find what you need there. Alternatively there are some good codecs packs on the internet which would also fix the problem I can't recall the names off hand. Lots of people recommend VLC media player which would let you play DVDs and a ton of other formats.

    You don't have DVD decoder.

Are you serious? That is the most unhelpful reply ever. I already know I'm missing a decoder. Why don't you tell me where to get it?

Download this which is Cyberlink PowerDVD 5.7, install, then do the online update to PowerDVD 5.9.
