Has anyone encountered abnormally long ship dates for recently ordered laptops?
I ordered a Studio 15 / Mini 9 combo about a week ago and the ESD for the Mini 9 is next week, and the ESD for the Studio 15 is early December. In the past I've gotten my custom-ordered laptops within a week of ordering.
I also noticed that the Purchase ID info does not show billing or shipping info, although I did receive email confirmation with that info.
What's going on? Will I receive lemons because Dell is making everyone take unpaid leave?

Yep. No idea what the story is. Pretty aggrivating, its cutting close to my overseas trip, so if there's an issue when it arrives I'm not sure how it'll shake out.
Order Date: 10/27/2008
Est. Ship Date: 12/8/2008 !! -
Here's how my recent Mini 9 order went:
Ordered: 10/24/08
ESD: 11/10/08
Actual Ship Date: 11/06/08
Arrival Date: 11/11/08 -
The Studio 15 was just shipped out, so it took 1 week from the date of order until shipment. The Mini 9 is still in production... I suspect a lot of people are ordering the Mini 9's. I wanted the 16GB SSD, 1.3MP camera, Internal Bluetooth 2.1, XP, and 512MB RAM.

I ordered a Precision M6400 9/26, and there were no backorders or delays on any parts. It got delayed twice and just last week (11/5) I decided someone must have completely fubarred the order and canceled it. Nobody could explain the delay to me in any reasonable terms. They would just say it was waiting on the screen, over and over. When asked if the screen was unavailable or on back order they would say no, it should ship any day. Did that for one month.
This is my first time ordering from Dell. I'm trying again with a M6400 Covet which uses a different screen... If that delays, even once, it will have caused me so much difficulty with my visual effects classes that Dell will be out for good. I don't like being lied to when making a $4,500 purchase.
Also, if they delay again, I am fairly certain they will be in violation of the Federal Mail Order Rule, which states that when advertising a ship date a company must have reasonable cause to believe a product will actually ship by that date. Last time, they obviously had an out-of-stock, back-ordered or unavailable part, yet stated that they did not, and promised a date they could not deliver. (Three times.) -
One week for the S15 to be built & shipped is a good thing!
The I9's have had a fair share of shipping delays...I hope soon for you though

i ordered from Dell yesterday (17/11/08) and my est shipping date is 02/12/08.
it's already in production though,
do you think i will get it before the 2nd december? -
it took my studio 15 24 hours to go through dell's 5 stages, but delivery has been taking a week (typical walsh western...) -
edit....
just checked it's in stage 4, delivery preperation. now to wait 2 weeks =) -
hopefully they ring me tomorrow. -
Cin: It turns out that they shipped the Mini 9 exactly 9 calendar days after I placed the order. I will receive it within the week, so both laptops will have arrived within 2 weeks of placing the order.

I bought a Precision M4400, Dell rep said it will be an expedited order, that based on his experience takes 48 hours the production process, any feedback on that ?, any previous experience with expedite orders ?, it's a true statement the 2 days production time ?, thanks

Some peep's have had to wait a lot longer than you have
You have tracking numbers for both, right??? So, you can track both of them to where you were having them delivered!

Wanted to chime in, that my second "expedited" order arrived today, ahead of schedule. (Dec. 2)
But now people are reporting some components are backordered, like the Quadro 3700 and the Quad Core. -
Estimated Ship Date vs Actual?
