I just ordered a customized latitude notbook today. They said that the estimated ship date was July 5. From others experiences does dell usually ship before or after the estimated date. If so how long after or before have you experienced

Mine was shipped about a 1 1/2 weeks before the expected date. Generally Dell gives you a date as a "worse case scenario", so if you don't have any parts that they will have to wait on, you should receive it fairly quickly.

My laptop arrived one or two days after its ship date. Once I ordered a desktop it came way in advance, my x50v came on time. What kidn of shipping did you pay for? I just took the free one...

It's usually quite a bit before. I'd say about a week to 10 days on average, if all goes well and you didn't select any components that would delay shipping (such as a 7200RPM hard drive or anything else that had the red words next to it "this may delay your Dell Latitude ship date" on the config screen).

I would estimate about a week before your date except that the 3 to 5 day shipping might make it a little closer to the ship date.

That sounds about right. Mine had a ship date of July 6th, but it's processed, kitteed, built, and tested already. I've heard they have a tendency to be in "boxing" for a while while they're shipped from China or Malaysia or wherever to California by sea turtle, but I have faith that it'll be hear by or just after the 4th.

LowlyMarine is right. The longest part will be boxing which is usually around 1 to 3 business days. Then once it says "shipped", it will take another day to show up in the UPS/DHL/FedEx system because Dell uses a private contractor to get the shipments from Nashville to the regional UPS/DHL/FedEx center.

I think mine took 2 days in from the prestage until boxing, then another 3 in boxing.

actually my sysytem arrived at my doorstep before the system was initially scheduled to ship, and that was with the 3-5 day delivery. Dell is pretty good with being on time, ive ordered a total of 6 systems, all of which were delivered way before expected.

yep, but if you call them up enough and bug them about, you might get an upgrade on shipping.
