I ordered my 1420 on July 11th and the expected shipping date was august 14th. Last night, I got a call from Dell confirming the cancellation of a previous order. I decided to ask the representation to check on the status of the 1420 as well and he said it would be shipped within 1 or 2 days. I was skeptical whether he knew what he was talking about because the estimated shipping date was august 14th but he said it had been expedited. This made sense I guess as I had called a few days earlier requesting this.
So today, I check the status online and it still says "Not Shipped" and "Estimated Shipping Date August 14th." Fair enough - maybe they don't update online, I thought. So I call, and today's representative tells me the scheduled shipping date is August 14th. Ummm...wtf. They just told me it would ship today or tommorrow.
1. Is there a possibility today's rep had more basic access to the status while yesterday's was some type of floor manager who was specifically handling my laptop and had the date? Or did he just not know what he was talking about?
2. Those of you who received your laptops before the expected date, did it just suddenly come unexpectedly or was the estimated arrival date updated online?

The estimated ship dates online are never updated, and when you call to ask about it they just check online themselves...

Mine was stuck at estimated ship date August 13th until ship day. So no, I don't think they update at all.

On shipping day (which was actually today) I got an email at 6 am saying my order had shipped. I don't think they ever updated the estimated ship date.
And if you want up to date info about your laptop, call the order status number: 1-800-433-9014
Estimated Shipping Date Updated?
