I thought I would jump in quick and yesterday ordered the E6400 with P8600 / 1GB / 160GB / X4500 / 14.1" WXGA+ with LED backlight / DVD burner / backlit keyboard / spare slim PSU / Intel 5100 wireless / VB + XP downgrade.
The EDD is 15th September.
I was told by the sales person that there is a 15 day lead time on the LED backlit display.
Has anyone else placed an order in spite of the lack of modem and Bluetooth config options?

The Dell UK E6400 order page is now showing this message:
Since I'm the only UK person here who has admitted to ordering one, I wonder if this is Dellspeak meaning they haven't got all the parts ready yet. The EDD of my order has not changed from 15 September, but past experience suggests that this will only get moved if the order has not shipped two working days before the EDD.

At about 07:30 today (UK time) my E6400 order status said in production! By 08:30 the status had changed to delivery preparation. What time do the production staff start work?
The timing of this move in status is interesting. The pre-production info had said up to 14 days, I was told at the time of order that there was a 2 week lead time on the WXGA+ display and now, after 14 days, everything is moving. Or so it appears.

PS: It's now in the delivery phase and I have a packing list, so it doesn't look like a computer glitch.
PPS: 27th August: I've had my phone call from Walsh Western and the delivery is scheduled for the morning of 28th. -
Hey, just wondering what you're gonna do about the lack of bluetooth? Will you be installing an internal module/usb module? Do you use bluetooth often? I've never owned a laptop before and I honestly don't know if I will ever need to use it.
PS. I'm asking because I ordered a M4400 before they offered it w/ bluetooth -

You could buy the Bluetooth adaptor from Dell and install it using the service manual ( this is for the E6400 but there will be a corresponding manual for the M4400). Or you can buy a USB Bluetooth adaptor. I bought one of these. A USB adaptor might not have as much range as the internal adaptor but is ideal for occasional use since there's no need to enable / disable it in software.

My E6400 was delivered at 09:44 today.
The delivery process went smoothly: Yesterday morning I had an automated phone call from Walsh Western where it was a simple matter of pressing 1 to agree to delivery today morning. However, if some other family member had answered the phone and didn't know what was happening then chaos could ensue.

My order which I placed today went to the stage "3. production". Does that mean anything or is that normal? EDD is still October 3rd.

So your laptop basically came in ahead of schedule? That's pretty sweet. Should all of us believe the date given is worst case?
-
Are the m4400s delayed too?
-
I still can't believe that...ordererd yesterday morning, and right now, less than 24 hours, it's already on the way...
It's in german, but that's what the Dell Homepage says.

Fascinating. Maybe you struck lucky by choosing a combination of parts that they already in stock.
Or maybe the warning about delays is a sales tactic to encourage people to order now because they have got the parts but no customers! The UK introductory discount which expired on 27 August was extended by 2 months.

Yes, I really got lucky! Hope the notebook works well.
On the UPS homepage it says delivery will be on September 2.
Wow, great job Dell! -

My E6500 arrived yesterday, on the 2nd of september (tuesday).
Ordered it on the 28th (thursday), shipped on the 29th (friday). That's an awesome job from Dell!
Haven't much time yet to use the notebook. First impression is really good. -
Finally! My E6400 just went to production
EDD was 10/2 so it's going to be delivered well ahead of schedule..
-
okay, so, my e5500 is sleeping somewhere in Prague at the moment, 250km from here... should be delivered with Walsh Western.
the question is: it friday night 24th. the EST is tuesday 28th: why tuesday and not monday, it is not that far away... *sniff* and, as 28th is a bank holiday here, the delivery will be postponed to the next day ("If the ETA falls within a National Holiday in the destination country, then delivery will occur on the next business day.") is it so that at Walsh Western, they are planning to have a long 4 days weekend, or can i hope for monday?
(correct thread now hopefully...) -
At least yours is shipped
who knows when mine will be -
-
sweet, it arrived today!!!
original EST was november 20th, then i got earlier date for delivery - october 28th (with a note that it would be 29th because of the bank holiday), and it's here - it's 27th... i think i like DELL!
-
My E6400 also seems to be coming fast...
I ordered it on October 22nd, but the order was confirmed on October 28th because Dell waited for my bank transfer (don't have a credit card). ESD would have been November 10th, but they already handed it on to UPS today. According to them, it will be here on November 3rd - not bad!
