After opening up NHC today, I decided to check the wear level on my battery to make sure it's still running alright. Last time I checked was about a month ago, and it was at 16%, and I thought it was high, but sucked it up and accepted that it was probably due to age.

However, today I am now at 30% wear on a battery that is less than 6 months old. Is this normal, or should I be worried that it is dying too fast. I very rarely use the battery and am plugged in most of the time. I tried talking with Dell about replacing it through dell Chat, but they had me test the battery by using fn+f3 and the battery health meter on the battery itself, both of which said it was fine, so they wouldn't replace it.

I've also read several guides online about different ways of reducing the wear such as sticking it in a freezer, running it down to empty, etc. and am wondering if any of these actually work.

How do you test the wear on it? I run mine completely dead 4 times a week, but I'm not sure on the wear. Tell me how and I'll tell you what its at.

I ran Notebook Hardware control and there is a meter in there that will tell you what your battery wear is at.

I've always followed the rule of completely depleting the battery at least once a week.

NHC is merely estimating battery wear on your battery. It doesn't know the original specs of all batteries, so you can be assured that it is merely calculating what it can. Try running on battery power and see if your battery life is at 70% of what it used to be. I'll bet it isn't.

I have 7-year old batteries that still retain about 75% of their original life when used.

Does letting the battery run completely dead once a week help?
