Hi guys i got a m1330 from the outlet..But it came with the bulge keyboard and also a warped or bulge on the back panel where the memory/gpu is. Also one of the screws look almost stripped..

Anyway i called dell for a return and they offered to exchange it for another system with same or better configure or build a new one.. I asked what if i dont want the exchange or if it has the same problems could i get a full refund if its beyond my 21 days he said yes.. so my question is.

Has anyone else done an exchange on a refurb model? Also Do you think its safe to go beyond the 21 days for a full refund?

    thanks for your time

Dont expect a full refund after 21 days. Not gonna happen.

I'm surprised they offer exchanges for refurb models since they are supposed to be "refurb".

Refurb does not mean "used" or "used condition" I guess is a better term. I guess if the OP bought it as a "scratch and dent", then maybe he should have these issues. Just sounds to me the refurb tech got lazy.

Get on with XPS chat if you need to and ask the question, and keep the log. At least then you will have something in writing.

Refurbs are basically used conditioned but are cleaned up to look "Like New", but may have as you say, a scratch and dent. Basically as long as it works, its fine.

I do recall a case where there were major problems with a refurb not working at all and that person calling for an exchange and complaining a lot about it, he/she was able to get a brand new one made for them that was non-refurb. You never know.

i got it refurbished reconditioned.. not scratch or dent.. Also i know why it was returned the first time i think the xps chat person before i called return said something about "I have checked the previous case notes and I see that a system exchange was provided to because of red vertical lines on the screen."

I would understand some scatches and such, and the keyboard bulge i could deal with, but not the mem panel bulge..

I was also surprised that they offered a exchange, thats why i jumped on it.. never know what i could get and the rep on the phone said i could return it if it was un satifactory.. the only thiing i dont like about this is i dont see anywhere on my account abouot an exchange nor did i get a email. which i asked for.. hope it goes ok.. thanks guys for your help

The return policy is the same for refurbs as it is for new units.

And like I said before, it sounds like you got a lazy refurb tech. You should have no marks on it at all, unless it was sold as a "scratch and dent". The keyboard buldge is pretty common, even on "new" systems. And can be fixed. But the back panel, and the striped screws would piss me off! ;)

omg.. my exchange is "In Production" .. everything seems to be fine except the 265.05 difference in price..and no sign of a nvidia card. Now according to the Rep I should not have to pay this difference.. Also according to the ESD it will be cutting it really really close to the 21 day return policy if not over.. I think i just have bad luck..

Yeah Ive always wondered about that. Each time you get an exchange, does it restart the 21 day return policy? Sure you might say thats stupid, Dell would never do that... but...

Toshiba does it. Their return policy is 15 days, I ordered a brand new tablet pc from them, found a defect, exchanged after 13. I got additional 15 days. On day 10, I notice another defect, exchanged. Noticed another defect after an addtional 12 days, exchanged. Had to go out of country and they screwed up shipping to wrong addres, so I called in and they extended to 30 days return/exchange period. Day I get back from home, notice another defect, exchanged... and then penryn came out. I wanted to upgrade, so I called in and asked if I could exchange for a penryn, they said yes though it costs an addition 0.05, yes, thats right, 5 cents. So I did it, and then I was satisfied.

Each of those exchanges, I did not have to pay for return shipping as they generate the fedex label. I'd think Dell has it too, but Dell is bigger than Toshiba so they might be smarter about their exchange policy...

No matter which way I look at it, a refurb is a refurb, i.e: not new. Its been used and fiddled with before. In any case, I guess I'd rather have a fully functional refurb, then a defective new unit :)

well status changed to shipped.. invoice says overnight.. so maybe ill get it tomorrow or Mon. But cant seem to fine the nvidia card on the invoice and dell customer service is down for hrs now..

I understand a refurb is a refurb, but it should still come with no defects..
    thanks guys for you help
